    Default Dungeon Alerts

Ok, I understand that DDO is trying to stop zerging but the dungeon alert garbage that allows a measly Little scorpion to all of a sudden has "Godlike" powers of haring you is absolutely about the dumbest idea I have ever seen. If anything makes me quit playing this game this is probably the reason. It is not even fun when the creatures see through walls ceiling and floors and then "bam" a low life creature all of a sudden becomes a godlike creature because of a false dungeon alert!

My favorite is the run over to Meridia. Even hasted those scorpions nip at my heals. Get by the spiders and bam green DA. Follow the path around, oh look some rats, oops yellow DA. Harried, running in slow motion, I make it to the gates of Meridia with a pile of spiders and rats on my tail. Yeah, *Dungeon* Alert in a wide open area like that is just silly.

Oh I do, when I'm in a *dungeon*. When I just need to get over to Meridia so I can bind, and then do a shroud run, stopping to kill everything in my path is just plain stupid, and a waste of time.

In the Orchard you can easily get DA from mobs who are phased out and never phase back in. I'll stand there and tap my feet waiting for them to attack me. They never do. I've never gotten more than a yellow because of this, but still it indicates to me that the mechanism is broken.

Had my first bit of fun with dungeon alert in WW yesterday. I was soloing through with my lvl4 barb. When I got to the worm prison I was standing at a doorway using my bow to draw guards out (yes, I was playing it very slow and safe). Suddenly surrounded and *bing* green. Haven't moved a foot from the doorway, just swinging my axes and *bing* yellow. Harried, harried, feared, harried... not that it was a problem at all, just annoying, and particularly funny considering how slow I was crawling it.

I love how one of the reasons behind it was supposedly to help in their effort to reduce lag... So, how's the lag now??? *shakes head*

I know lag may have gotten better for some since DDOEU came out. However, for me, I now HAVE lag because I actually never had it before. It's incredibly frustrating. I had two days of no lag a few weeks ago and thought how great it was they finally fixed it!!! But guess what? It was during the two days when DA was mysteriously turned off. As soon as it got turned back on, BAM, lag returns.

Yeah, so for me, this line that "DA is designed to help reduce lag" is just a crock of sh*t. Pardon my french.

You realize that complaining about the dungeon alert system successfully doing what it was designed to do, even though you would prefer it didn't exist, just proves to Turbine that it was a good idea...right?

If you're going to argue against it, you'd be better off pointing out the missions where it's broken and doesn't do what it was designed for...

I hear that if you run backwards while hopping then you can't be harried.

While I am as of yet undecided on the merits of the DA system, "I'm paying, so I should be making the rules" is not really applicable to MMOs.

Remove traps and monsters, we should be allowed to play the game WE pay for any way that we want to..

Had my second fun run in with DA, and this time it got me killed. Again, soloing, standing still fighting mobs in the current room I'm in. *green* *yellow* *harried* *harried* So I can't move, which isn't a huge deal, but I'd like to get my back to a wall so I can beat on things as the come to me... I jump with the intention of jumping backwards to the wall *harried* stuck in mid air now, can't come down, and can't seem to hit anything. Dead.

I can't say as I've ever looked at what is supposed to trigger DA, but I really don't think walking into a room and killing the mobs that pop in it should do it. I also don't think you should be getting "harried" in mid air...

I might be wrong, though. I was in Air Stance at the time

I don't think I've ever seen an orange, but maybe I just don't pay enough attention. I mostly just see "green" or "not green"

It doesnt even get interesting until the DA is RED IV

And it really isnt that bad. If you find DA killing you, its not the DA that is the problem.

DA was not implemented to "stop zerging". DA was implemtned to:

"In our continued effort to reduce lag and other performance issues for our players, a new feature for quests and adventure areas has been introduced called “Dungeon Alert”. This new system will notify adventurers when they have alerted too many enemies at once in their quest; if they press on without managing this aggro, the danger and difficulty of their enemies increases."

The "theory" was that zerging taxed the servers too much. It worked so well that when DA went missing for a few days no one bytched about it. Most likey because we were all too **** busy playing the games as we wished to play it, without the irritating BS that DA brought to the table.

I think it helps to increase the widening gap between experienced and new players. There is less tolerance for newness now because mistakes that were slightly irritating before DA now forces players to choose between expending excessive resources to keep the party alive or letting them die. There are quests out there (Bastion of Power comes to mind, but there are others) where taking only a few steps in the wrong direction, or making a jump in the wrong place, can put a party in a hurt locker thanks to DA. Before DA you could take a new person (or a drunk person depending on server/guild affiliation) and power through any mistakes that might be made. Not so much now.

It is not doing what it is supposed to do (decrease lag). At best you can say it is neutral towards performance. They may be out there but I have found no posts since the onset of DA saying "Thank God Turbine! My lag is GONE now that DA is here!!!"
