    Default Planar Gird

Pulled this gear, extremely short of funds trying to gear up some new characters on a new server and was looking on the AH for some pricing. Fair to say I was a bit astonished at the pricing. Is the gear really that rare of a pull? Is it really that great? Should I just keep it? And for what class of character is it best used?

I saw one on the AH for 500K gold and a bunch of others starting around 2 mil gold. Realistic prices? Go easy on me, I've been away from DDO for a while (obviously quite a while based upon this pricing).

I think 30K - 50K plat from the AH (on Sarlona) is about right. I'd recommend keeping it, as it is useful to every class. Melee get the hit bonus, UMD toons get that bonus, everyone gets haggle, trap-monkeys get +4 to everything (or +2 over a hero pot), and if you want to do bloodstone runs in the desert, you need fear immunity.

By classes, it's worth the least to ones who can eventually cast it (Wiz, Sorc, Bard).

That being said, if you need the plat, I'll give you 35K plat (350,000 gold) for it. PM me if interested.

Thailand_Dan is probably lowballing the figure just a little bit, I would say 50k pp would be slightly low end value. 200k is way over the top, though. I don't really need one, but I'll put my money where my mouth is and pay up 50k for it if you can't get a buyer at least at that price, just PM me. I wouldn't be surprised if you had an offer for twice that, though.

The value has decreased with the introduction of another Greater Heroism clicky, somewhat easier to get Draconic necklace which drops in Bastion of Power. The Necklace is level 18 and exclusive though, so Planar Girds are still very nice because of their min lvl 9 and the fact you can have multiples on a single character.

In regards to your question of its usefulness, OP, the value of a Gird is not in its static bonuses, but in its GH clicky. 11 minute buff of GH which gives +4 to hit, saves and skills, as well as immunity to fear and a small temporary hitpoint buff. This item is extremely useful to any class who cannot cast/Scroll/UMD their own GH.

Personally, I would recommend keeping it. Even if you don't need it on your current character, they are great for when you are working up new alts.

It's a rare pull, and it's a GH clickie with nice (but not spectacular) alignment-restricted bonuses. I pulled mine (and sold it for 100k plat on AH right after -- I was a Wiz, and I always roll chaotic) the first time I ran the Cipher, and I never saw another one drop since. It's particularly good because you can use it at level 9, two levels before Wizards and Sorcs get the spell (although bards get it at lvl9 as well, i think), and it's at that level where the attack, save and skill boosts really shine. I say keep it, I always regret letting go of mine, now that I'm not so hung up on being a caster all the time

Come on Lost Leader, I did tell him he should keep it

In my mind, they are must-have gear, if you can't cast it, which is why I'll pick one up anytime I see one for 30K or less. I'll find one of my toons who'll take it. But, everyone of my toons already has at least one. It takes a little checking, but the AH (on Sarlona) will usually net you one for 30K plat within a month of casual looking. Considering no commission on the sale, and with a "I can do without it" attitude, i figured 35K plat was reasonable, if he really needs/wants the plat.

At 50K plat, I'm out of the bidding. But, I will say to the OP, that is a respectable price for the Gird. But, as several of us said, you'll probably want to hold onto. Up to you.

One recommendation, about what is to come, regarding acquiring plat, is you are probably not too far from the Shroud. This is where plat becomes pretty easy to acquire. You usually end up running it every 4 days or so (assuming you are not a wizard or sorc). In this raid, you have tons of chests dropping pretty expensive gear, and at the end, you have a chest which drops large ingredients. If you are willing to sell these 'larges' from say your first 10 runs, depending on what you pull, you can usually net well over 1 million plat, and you are pretty much set for in-game cash. All your other toons will be set as well, getting a nice little allowance from their rich uncle.

This is how I got myself started and funded scrolls/wand/twink gear for all my other toons. Good luck.

Didn't mean to imply you were intentionally underbidding, just that I thought that market price was slightly higher than your estimate.

No worries. My reply was meant to explain my rationale, but re-reading it, it may have come off as a bit defensive. Wasn't my intent. Anyways, have a good one.

    Default Appreciation for Everyone

I'd like to thank everyone for their replies on the issue and the PM offers to buy. Based upon the honesty in the posts, I think I'll plan to keep the belt. I now understand why it is so highly valued and will put to good use building up my own plat bank in runs.

It's good to see the community helping each other out - one of the reasons I missed DDO and came back. Have a great new year.
