    Default So, about concentration...

Whats the secret formula that determines whether or not you fail casting a spell if you get hit?

And if you get hit with elemental or other types of damage(I.E.:Electricity, evil) does it increase the chance of or automatically make you fail casting that spell?

Isn't the DC suppose to be something like 10 + (Damage taken) ?

Your also going to have to make a Concentration check every time you take damage while you are casting the spell, so you likely won't be making just 1 check. So the, "Bound to roll a 1 sooner or later" situation come into play. This is why generally arcane casters stay out side of the melee pile so they have less of a chance to getting hit.

If your finding your failing alot, you may want to concider Combat casting too

DC = 10 + damage taken + level of the spell you are casting

Also with skill checks a 1 doesn't equal a failure, but with the ridiculous amounts of damage you can take in one shot in DDO the DC can get quite high. If you truly find yourself failing concentration checks too much then the metamagic feat quicken is a much much much better choice than combat casting

Ah, thats what I was looking for. Thanks. Was wondering just exactly how valued my concentration skill would be. Of course, quicken spell is, indeed, an excellent choice if your in the middle of a mob, but if your smart and know when to attack, most of the time you will not need concentration or even quicken spell. Doesn't mean that those skills are worthless though, they do come in handy should you get hit...

You will eventually need quicken though because if an enemy does 40 damage a hit that's DC 50 + spell level... Your skill will be 23 + Con + item (up to 15) + 4 (GH) and possibly other minor small bonuses for a total of around 50. So you're ok in that scenario, but if the enemy does 50 instead you're practically assured of failure even with a maxed out and fully boosted skill. If you don't have an item...

And 'not being hit' isn't an option when the enemy can teleport at will, and the optimal tactic is to group up and mass heal accordingly.
