What are the merits of the monk splash?

rogue - UMD, sneak damage (assuming you won't be a DPS/agro leader)
monk - AC, 2 feats, unarmed attack

Monk will will more often than rogue for many melee builds.

Most Rogue Splashes can at least keep Open Lock high enough tobe very useful if not search and Disable Device. Also have Enhancements to DEX (+1) and SKills (+2 Boost)

Monks also gain Wisdom Bonus to AC as long as they dont wear armor or use a sheild. Enhancment to Wisdom (+1) and their Path can also be a benefit tomany builds.
