Game Hangs / Freezes at "Welcome to Eberron" screen

Hi Everyone,

Have just finished downloading the base file (~300mb), and am trying to test the game out before downloading the full 3gb client, as my internet is only gets 25k/sec DL speed, and will take about 3 days of constant downloading.

When I launch the game everything goes smoothly. The login works fine, and I get through to character creation without a problem. i can create a character with no problems as well.

However, when I hit the 'enter' button, the game moves forward to the "Welcome to Eberron" screen, i see the 'hourglass' icon for a split second, and then the game hangs / freezes. The loading bar at the bottom stays empty, and no matter how long I wait, nothing happens. I can alt+tab out of the game, and end it through the device manager or via right click -> close on the task bar.

My system is older, but meets all the requirements, and I haven't had any graphical problems so don't think it's a graphics card problem. I've also tried starting the game after closing all firewall / virus programs, and still it hangs / freezes.

Would love some help with this, as have heard good things about the game and would really like to give it a shot.

If your connection speed is only 25k/sec, then it probably hasn't completed the download of the tutorial area yet. You should be able to look at the download manager in your system tray and see the status.
