    Default lost my pci-e adaptor???

    i have the following trouble.....

My system is not displaying anything on the pci-e slot - i put a card into it and no card is detected, but the cards fans spin up so its getting power. i have tried 2 different cards - both worked fine in my friends comp (one was old one was new) but niether display on my comp.

when i place a pci card into system it detects it and shuts down the onboard display like the mobo should, but not so with pci-e's the onboard is always active.

I tried to flash the bios of my old pci-e card thinking it was faulty, but got the message adaptor not found, no card installed.

    now to the parts..

    mobo is a gygabyte ga-m61se-s2
    i have 2 gig ram ddr2 800 in dimm1
    amd athalon 64 x2 dual 3800+ cpu
vid card is a sapphire x800gto

    so heres the story...

Parts where installed. hd was reformatted and a new clean install of win xp occured.
All current drivers where installed as per what was avaliable from mobo website.
installed vid card got a display from it.
ran a program called driver robot that detected the card and told me my system needed lots of new drivers, so i hit yes to all and it busyily went about installing them all.
system crashed and went unresponsive for some time and had to be rebooted. and from that point on i have had no display on pci-e port.

I reformated and did yet another clean windows xp install - still got same issues so its not an old driver lurking somewhere.

I have tried all sorts of things, from no ram & only vid card in to see if boot sounds occur, different ram sizes in different slots, etc.. etcc... i've spent countless hours looking at various posts on the net about similar troubles others have had. and all in all i'm now faced with being out of ideas.
I tried to load up ddo tonight on just the pci display card (an old fx5200) and according to a system testing site what i have should totally eat up ddo spec wise and i should be able to run it at high settings.. but...
in games auto config tester set my system at low but worse than that the fps jumps around from 6 - 25. the game in effect pulses and is not much fun to play on.

anyone got any ideas as to where to go from here?

Probably a silly question, but did you go into the BIOS and make sure that the PCI-e slot is enabled?

well heres a post for my bios settings

    http://forums.ddo.com/showpost.php?p...ostcount=63032

if you can see anywhere in there that pci-e can be disabled your doing better than me because from those settings all is set right.

btw i have cleared cmos setings to try a reset that way, and have also tried the fail safe options in bios. all no luck.
