    Default Firewall Tank?

SO, i stated playing about 2 months ago.

I now have a lvl 13 Sorc and a few others lower.

I just bought 32 point builds, and have acquired a few tomes so far, so i am interested in starting a new character, something I will be able to rely on as a sold build in late game (as i don't want to waste the tombs and time to get a toon there if wont work).

What I am trying to do with this character is build a not so squishy firewall/cold cone sorc. Something that can take some damage (potently tank) but also dish out some decent AoE damage.

What im looking for is one of 2 things.

    a) is this a stupid idea? should I just focus on my pure Sorc and stay out of combat?

if so, I have noticed that in all the groups i have been in, I have done more damage then anyone ( aside from quests with fire immune majority mobs) And i inevitably end up with argo and have to run around the room with a doze mobs following me. What I'm attempting to do is build a character that stand still for a few seconds allowing other DPSers to do there thing without running around to room with me.

This begs the question, is it just that I have not grouped with a decent intimitank yet? Or, maybe I just need to keep llving and hopefully have enough mana to stun/hold all the mobs and kill them with firewall, in that case all i need is 2 clerics and i could probably move faster then a well rounded group.

    b) if the response to question a is YES! Well then recommend something, I have been reading anything I get my hands on (in terms of builds for mod 9) and they all sound fun, but mostly overdone.Show me something unique!

If the sorcerer is good he wants to have aggro, so the monsters remain in his damage areas instead of running elsewhere. It is often rude to intimidate off him.

If a sorcerer does not want aggro, he shouldn't have been damaging those monsters in the first place.

To be a very tanky WF sorc, you don't need Mithral Body, Shield Mastery, or Fighter levels. What you do need is Quicken.

My question is wouldn't a WF wizard(18)/rogue(2) do all the things you want better, and easier?

There are lots of posts in the wizard forum about how to do this/ build one, take a look at them real fast.

Before that idea of more mana is better. Try out the idea of smarter mana.

So the idea then is to cast FtS or Hold ect. quick enough to keep mobs held and not touching you ?

If even one gets to you what do you do then ? rely on Displacement/Stoneskin?

All you really have to do is jump back and forth through your firewall.
Mobs will stay in melee range (and in the firewall)

Might want to consider making the WF a pure sorc (or wiz), taking Quicken for the Repair spells (may need to keep a supply of mnemonic potions on hand for quests without a lot of shrines), and using stoneskin (from wands if a sorc), haste & displacement, as well as making sure to have plenty of hit points (decent CON, +CON items, False Life, collect Tapestries for a Minos Legens helm, etc.)

There are two alternatives depends on the situation and your preferences: move away, or push shift. The former mainly involves a Jump buff, while the latter often uses a tower shield.

either jump/stoneskin or get a +5 heavy mithril shield, DP clickie, and block. pure caster or /2 splash, screw the deep multiclassing.

alternatively, roll a WF, get quicken (reconstruct), pump strength, get a two hander, and bash faces.

Halfling sorc 18/2 rogue with all the halfling luck's, and dex bonuses.

Elemental lineage, and deadly lineage and all that sort of stuff.

Crystalline Scepter, CHA +6 item, greater pot #, greater combustion #, wizardry 7, blah blah whatever fully fire specced sorcs wear.

This is a super soloable build, and I use one to tank for my favor grinder on Thelanis.

Here are the first 12 levels http://forums.ddo.com/showpost.php?p...7&postcount=19

keep in mind that the spell is 2d4 +1/caster level, which means that your firewalls will be a base of 2d4+12, as opposed to a pure caster with 2d4+20...

That is true, I was wondering out that, is it a huge deal ? I have calculated around 100 damage a tick ( to non undead), with items and those enhancements, is this too low?

I'll be honest, I don't notice that much of a difference between my 20 wiz and my 18/2 wiz, but 12/6/2 is a much bigger gap, so it may or may not be noticable.

If you're just looking to survive the aggro you get with your spells, I'd recommend the Warforged race for the self healing and the Docent of Defiance. With a +5 Light Mithral Shield and Divine Power clickies, you should be able to survive anything that doesn't put you on your back... invest in Balance to help with those.

If you want to make a in-their-face-battle-sorc that uses weapon DPS predominately, check out Aspenor's build at http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=182069

Personally, I prefer wizards for my battle mages.
