    Default Attack Bonus Bug?

So I've been monitoring my attack bonus in my inventory panel when I wield a greatsword. Until yesterday night it would be at least +23 with no buffs or paladins around and power attack off. All of a sudden it dropped to to +18 so I decided to add up all the gear feats and enhancements to try and find out what happened.

    Here are his stats:
Level 6 32 pt Dwarven Fighter

    STR: 16
    DEX: 13
    CON: 18
    INT: 10
    WIS: 10
    CHA: 10

So here's how I calculated the attack bonus
    +6 BAB
    +5 STR
    +4 From a +4 Greatsword
    +1 Kensei Greatsword Mastery
    +1 Weapon Focus: Slashing Weapons
?? Two Handed Fighting - I assume it's at least +1 but it doesn't say in the Feats panel or compendium
?? Improved Two Handed Fighting - I assume it's at least +1 but it doesn't say in the Feats panel or compendium
    +1 Goggles of Insight

This alone adds up to 20 (assuming THF and ITHF only give +1 each) but it still only says +18. Am I adding this up wrong or is this some kind of bug? I have no curses or diseases. I restarted my client but nothing changes. All of a sudden I lost +5 attack bonus but power attack is still off. The strange thing is last night, it would fluctuate for no reason. I would be standing still with the same gear and no buffs and it would go back up to +23. Then I would check again a few seconds later and it would be back down to +18. What gives? Thanks in advance

    were you moving?
    had you any debuffes?
    had you any stance active?
did you **** off a gm?

and the thf lines dont add to tohit, only for glancing blows, but not for normal ones

This is happening to a guildie of mine and via testing while standing absolutely still with no one around to add pali auras, etc, and no buffs his to hit drops significantly. We are still trying to identify the problem and will likely submit a bug report after testing is complete.

I was not moving, had no debuffs and power attack was off, no other stances active. If I remove THF and ITHF the total is +18 but what happened to the other +5? Maybe the +23 was an error and it has been corrected?

It's the bonuses to attack from the attack chain, this is usually refered to by "+0/+0/+5/+10". Basically, if you sit still while swinging you get a bonus to the third and fourth attack. The bug comes in that you shouldn't be keeping these from one fight to the next... most likely it's just the window not updating.

From what I see everything you listed adds up to +18 on the first swing.
The progressive BAB adds +5 to the next swing at level 6, I believe.

Pally auras do not add to anyone's to-hit BTW, as far as I know. Only to AC and Saves (and other things but AC and Saves are the primary bonuses that Paladin's are apt to spend AP's on).

Other ways to improve BAB is Heroism (+2) or Greater Heroism (+4), Bard songs, Rage (increase the Str) and stat enhancing buffs/items (bulls str pot/spell and +# Str items usually on Bracers or Gloves at lower levels).

Look up the progressive BAB bonus and see if that accounts for the missing +5.

Edit: I see cyanpill answered the BAB progression. And that looks to be the culprit .

And this makes what, the 50th thread on this issue? Not to mention dozens of times in the advice channels. The devs need to do something about this, it's becomming a distraction.

Probably the best thing would be to exclude the chain based bonuses from displaying outside the die roll and combat log, just like what happens with Righteous.

The best thing would be for them to do a far better job at documenting the game

This is what happens. Your character sheet will display the last attack bonus that you had. Since yours was showing +23 instead of +18, it's most likely because you killed a mob when you were getting the +5 in your attack chain.

I see this a lot on my ranger after fighting a favored enemy, my attack bonus will be a lot higher than it should be.

I know that. But by making the inventory screen reflect that iterative bonus we keep getting people posting threads and asking in chat, "What's up with my attack bonus?" or "Is my attack bonus bugged?"

The frequency of this question demonstrates pretty clearly that this has become a source of confusion and having to answer the same question over and over and over is getting a bit old. If it's become such an issue, the way this information is presented has to be rethought.
