Default can u really get banned for using an exploit

there are so many exploits and they are all so tempting. why can't we just use them till they're fixed?
i don't think you should have to be responsible for bad code. it's not like taking some extra plat matters in life.

yes you can get banned for using an exploit. It's not like taking away your ability to play the game matters in life.

    Yes.
But don't that those fancy rules stop ya... go ahead. Show the man he's not the boss of you now.

Its like paying your taxes or playing baseball......................

There are many ways to bend the rules and come out on top, but if you do it and you get caught, you pay the penalty. Most people both play baseball and pay taxes by the rules and do just fine, the slight advantage you get from bending the rules is not worth the cloud hanging over your head and you always anticipating rain. If you get my drift.

Default but that would defeat the purpose of using exploits

if you can't play then you wouldn't want to use an exploit to begin with. i'm saying that it should be the fault of the devs and not the players for trying to get ahead.

That's like saying you should be prosecuted for stealing when you get caught carrying your neighbor's TV out the front door of his house just because he accidentally left the front door unlocked.

i've found that there are a lot of weird people who play this game who take it upon themselves to be mean to others for no reason. why is that?

you're not taking anything that actually exists. it's a video game.
i used to cheat all of the time on my nes cartridges. most games had cheats built into them.
this game is actually no exception. there are intentional oversights that allow us to profit.
why do you think it's like stealing?

Think of DDO as the devs homes.

Think of exploits as the devs wallets.

If they leave a wallet out on the table and dont come back for it for a long time but have given you permission to walk around the house, is it ok to go through thier wallet and take a few bucks?

    Who is to blame?

What sort of action should be taken to correct the situation?

Exclamation I wouldnt know what an exploit was anyways so who cares.

I think a warning and a reason why your getting your time wasted is sufficient. There was a Supreme Court case where it was impossible for the defendents to even know they were breaking the law because it was so vauge look up Papachristou vs Jacksonville, 405 US 156 (1972) law school has its benifits Supreme threw out the case gave to much power to the police and the defendents had no way of knowing they were breaking the law. So if you do not know its an exploit play the game and dont worry.

Let's look at a clip from an educational film staring a shockingly young Mr. Johnny Depp called, "Red Exploit!!!" In this clip, Mr. Depp shows our young exploiter, Charlie, the hazards of bending to the ripe, lush, nubile temptations of exploits...

not even close to the same, since the game isn't public, you have to have an account, and you agree to the TOS every time you log in, which state that exploiters may have action taken against them.

in response to "mean people," it's similar to the reason that you want to be able to exploit...

They wouldn't be exploits if they were intentional oversights, now would they?

I equated it to stealing because you basically said - they accidentally did something or didn't do something. I know it's not intended (hence why it's an exploit) but I think I should be able to do what was not intended until they can muster the manpower to fix it. "Video game cheats" - i.e. codes that you can enter (up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, start for all the old timers) ARE intentional. Exploits by definition are UNINTENTIONAL. If they are planning to fix them, they are obviously not intentional because if they were intentional they would not need to fix them. Exploits exist by accident (leaving the door unlocked) and using exploits is against the rules of the game (as is stealing in real life). You should not be permitted to violate the rules (i.e. stealing your neighbor's TV) when you know you are doing wrong, or reasonably should know you are doing wrong, until they can remedy it. It's not the way society works and the game is well within its rights to prohibit it. It is, after all, their game.

A big difference between exploits in a MMORPG and intentional cheat codes in a console video game is a matter of scale. Intentional cheats in a console game affect you only. Exploits in a MMORPG affect many players. With an ever-changing game with many players, unintended things will arise. In a single shot console game it is far less likely.

I find it funny that we do not even know when we are exploiting the game. Turbine should give us a detailed list so I know for a fact I am on the up and up.

Take it from someone who just graduated law school - this is bad advice. Ignorance of the law is no excuse. There is also a BIG distinction between making rules for your private property and criminal due process. While you may not get banned if it is obscure, it is within the dev's rights to ban you for any exploit regardless of how obvious.

here's a good rule for knowing if something is an exploit:
if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

For the most part, if you are playing the game as intended, you won't ever exploit; in general, you have to go out of your way to do so.
