    Default 3d try is the charm

    When I start DnD, for the first time after doing something else (word, browser, booting up, etc.) the window allows me to enter User name and Password, I click ....

    and then it just exits. I'm back on the desktop (Win 7). It does this exactly twice. Then I can log in and play.
    This is consistent behavior, time after time.

    This is not normal for a program, I pretty sure. :-P

    I've got the shortcut set to run as an admin. How can I fix this??

    This happens on my laptop too, but not on my desktop.

    My laptop runs Vista and one thing I've noticed is that when I fire up DDO and just before it closed, I see a window pup up that says something to the effoct of "changing to standard theme" and then pop, ddo dies. Start it up again and it runs fine.

    I've also noticed, that if I start DDO up in windowed mode on my laptop that it runs fine every time. I'm sure the issue has to be something with the theme. My theme however is standard except for a simple desktop background image.

    DDO by default can't run with the desktop composition on, so it switches to basic theme, which causes DDO to close in some cases. What you can do is right click on the shortcut, click properties, then go in the compatibility tab, and check Disable Desktop Composition.

    Or, if you want to try it out, you can allow DDO to run with desktop composition by changing a setting in the user preferences file.

    \My Documents\Dungeons and Dragons Online\UserPreferences.ini

    AllowDesktopCompositing=False

    Change to True, save, then start up the game.

    I've not had any problems either way, but I ended up switching to the Windows Basic theme which disables desktop composition entirely, since I use this primarily as a gaming machine. The less ram in use by windows the better.

    AllowDesktopCompositing=True seems to have resolved the issue, thank you very much
