Getting Data Centers

I have been trying to connect to the game servers but am always getting stuck at the Data Centers step. I have attempted all of the fixes in the sticky thread in this forum but have had no success at all.

Any suggestions beyond what is laid out in the sticky?

I assume your internet connection is a-ok (if you posted this thread from the same computer, then the answer is yes).

In the past, I have had several problems with Turbine and how it interacts with Internet Explorer. You see, DDO uses your IE settings, even if you use something else (like firefox) for your default browser. What can happen is that connection settings can change in IE, and you may never notice (since you're using firefox or whatever)... until the next time you try to play DDO. These connection settings are typically changed only by the user intentionally doing so, but there have been cases (updates, especially the upgrade to IE 8) where the settings were not deliberately changed by the user.

Even if you don't think this is the problem, it's quick and easy to check: pop open IE, go to tools->Internet Options->Connections Tab->LAN Settings Button. For the vast majority of people, the correct setting on this screen is "Automatically Detect Settings". Unless you have deliberately set up your network differently, make sure this box is checked (one problem many had after IE 8 upgrade was that this box wasn't checked at all).

Then surf to a webpage using IE, to make sure you can see the outside world.
