Crypto API problem

I was in the middle of a quest when my laptop suddenly shutdown because it was overheating. After the laptop finished booting, I tried to play DDO. However, once the screen with the sorceress appears, the game stops loading and the message "Could not initialize crypto API" appears. I've followed all advice listed on the forums, uninstalled and reinstalled both the game and the .NET stuff. I still get the same error. I'm at a loss of what to do. I will not reinstall Vista just to get a game to work. I am a VIP and will have to cancel my account if there is no way to fix this other than to reinstall Vista.
