A group of 7-9 levels were running Tear of Dhakan on hard. When we came to the shaft where you can jump to the left, with water at the bottom, and another corridor leading away on the opposite side, the group made the jump to the left. One person, however, failed the jump and began climbing up the ladder. As I saw this, I thought that the jumper might need help, as there is a tough group at the top of the ladder. I jumped down to the top of the ladder to help and began fighting the hobgoblins.
Of course, the jumper had no intention of sticking around, and he went to the next ladder to climb to safety. I didn't notice he was gone until most of the hobgoblins were dead, but I was badly injured (8th level ranger). I tried whipping out a wand to heal myself, but I had been playing with my hot bars earlier and focus was on the wrong bar. Of course, I didn't realize what the problem was at the time, I just knew my wand wasn't working. I finished off the last guard and desperately fled from the unharmed witch doctor. In a brain-dead moment, I thought that the water would break line-of-sight, and I jumped into the water as the witch doctor tagged me with a parting Melf's. I sank to the bottom, watching my health tick away, realizing I couldn't use a wand while swimming.
Tick.

<Healer>: You should stay where I can see you so I can heal you.
<Me>: In the water.
Unconscious. -9, Melf's expires.
<Me>: Gonna die.
So there I was, on death's door, underwater, watching the little remaining in my breath bar shrink to nothing, when BAM!

Hot diggety dog.
Healer, you had just about the most epic save imaginable. My hat is off to you.
And I'm more careful with my hotbars now.
