Angry "dndclient has stoped working" error

I loaded the quickstart game over the weekend and it worked fine Friday but on Saturday I got the dndclient has stoped working error. I uninstalled the game on sunday and reinstalled it and it worked fine after that until today when I tried to log on again.

I want to play this game, from the small amount I was able to play I would be willing to pay for a subscription for the game if it were not for the error.

    Dose anyone have any idea's?

    it happens both ways,

    right now the luncher is

    STATUS RECEIVED SENT
CharacterGeneration Up to date 0.00 KB 2.55 MB

Full Game Downloading 3.30 GB of 4.89 GB
    ETA: 7:33 PM(2.20:38:00 remaining) 41.28 MB 0.00 KB

I get to enter my passward then it starts loading the screen goes black the music starts for about 1 sec you can see the pink swirl with an eye in it then it crashes with the dndclient has stoped working.

I'm able to successfully log in, and choose world, but after the screen goes black and the hourglass appears, I get a split second of an image before it pixellates and the game crashes.

    Error information:
    AppName: dndclient.exe AppVer: 1.10.1.8011 ModName: binkw32.dll
    ModVer: 1.8.18.0 Offset: 0000c89d

Had no connectivity issues at all 24 hours ago, so I assume this has something to do with the recent update? BTW, I still have a good 2.5 GB left of full game content yet to download.

So after reading several of the post in this form I thought I would just let the full game download and see it that would fix it. When I got home tonight and loged on the launch Turbine said that I only had 7 mins left to finish the download. I was at 4.54 GB of 4.89 GB. That was at 6:30 pm, it's now 8:30 and I have 7 hours 26min remaining, opps it now 7 hours and 28 mins.

    This is getting old quick.

Do I go back to WOW (damm me for saying that)

OK, so here's the answer to the problem.
wait for the download to finish. Simple as that. but the download took me 3 day's when I would first start or restart my computer the download would run fast for about 2 to 5 mins then it would stop. as soon as the full version was downloaded it played fine.

Thanks AdventCrypt for your help, I know you were trying to come up with something.

Time to go kick some butt!!!

    Thanks, AC.

I used my connection at work to download the full hi-res game content. Will install later tonight, and see how that goes, given Difur's recent success.

EDIT: Yup, that seems to have done the trick.

Yep I have the same problem now too. I was playing just fine earlier today, but now I get to select a world and that intro movie starts. Then it crashes to desktop and I get that error.

What if I just make an empty bink file with the same name? Will that bypass this?

I replaced the old binkw32.dll file in the install directory and now I can't even get to the movie before it crashes. I get this error instead: The procedure entry point_BinkSetSoundTrack@8 could not be located in the dynamic link library binkw32.dll.

I can't play the game because of this. Back to Modern Warfare 2 till this is done...

Can someone upload the binkw32.dll used by the game somewhere? I'd be much obliged.

Ok, just to make sure everyones on the same page: 1. we all played the game once from install and 2. Now that we are trying again it crashes a second after the opening music and video starts.

so, if i uninstall and reinstall to play again it should work? and where is the turbine downloader putting the full game?

Default I am having the same thing happen to me!

I am now reinstailing the game and I hope this is the fix! If not I guess I am back to the old stuff I did before and thats a shame because I liked what I saw.

Try opening up the "Userpreferences.ini" file located in "My Documents" (XP) or "Documents" (Vista/7) and look for the line "ShowIntroMovie" and change it to "False" (ie. ShowIntroMovie=False)

Save and exit the prefs file before launching again to test.
