    Default Encoding Error?

Yep, I try to launch the game from the download manager or just straight from the desk, but every time I get the error below. The game worked perfectly fine just two hours ago, then suddenly stopped functioning.

Tried re-installing DDO and it worked fine... For a couple of hours. Now I am getting the exact same problem again.

If you are running Turbine Download Manager (TDM), and are receiving this error, please perform the following steps:

    1. Exit the LOTRO launcher and TDM (if open)

    2. Open one of the folders indicated below (depending on which game is receiving this error)

    · C:\Program Files\Turbine\The Lord of the Rings Online

    · C:\Program Files\Turbine\Dungeons & Dragons Online – Stormreach

    If running Windows XP

Go to the folder window on Windows XP and Click on Tools > Folder Options > View (tab)

    If running Windows Vista/Windows 7

Go to the folder window on Windows Vista/Windows 7 and Click “Organize” > “Folder and Search Options”

    3. Click to disable the "Hide file extensions for known file types" option.

    4. Next, look in the folder for a file named "TurbineServices.config"

    5. Rename that file (ie. oldTurbineservices.config)

    6. Launch LOTRO

Taking these steps should resolve your concern.

If you are still receiving this error, please perform these additional steps below:

    Windows XP

    1. Open “Add or Remove Programs” in the Control Panel (Start > Control Panel)

    2. Look in the list that comes up for:

    •Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1
    •Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1 Hotfix (KB####)

    3. Uninstall both, starting with “Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1”, then “Hotfix” (uninstalling ‘Hotfix’ will give an error message, but should take itself out of the list)

    4. Download and reinstall them again from these links:

    Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1
    The 1.1 Service Pack (Hotfix)

    Windows Vista or Windows 7

    1. Open “Uninstall a Program” in the Control Panel (round “Start” button > Control Panel)

    2. Look in the list that comes up for:

    •Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1
    •Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1 Hotfix (KB####)
    3. Uninstall both, starting with “Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1”, then “Hotfix” (uninstalling ‘Hotfix’ will give an error message, but should take itself out of the list)

    4. Download and reinstall them again from these links:

    Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1
    The 1.1 Service Pack (Hotfix)
