    Default Assassin 1 and race

My first character was a rogue that followed the Dark Blade path (broke from it at level 6, which ended up with me screwing it up even more).

Anyway, after that (and I learned how to actually play/build characters) I haven't played a rogue since (except for the one I'm doing that's similar to Westside, but that's an acrobat).

Anyway, I really would like to do an assassin build sometime, but I have some questions on Assassin 1.

Is there any reason at all to use them? I used them a bit on my rogue, but I never noticed much of a difference (stuff died a bit fast anyway). I know Acrobat 1 is better than Assassin 1, but I don't feel like respeccing all my enhancements when I get to level 12 (because I'm just weird that way).

So, is there any way that the poisons are useful at all?

Secondly, I prefer elves to halflings. But the halfling guilde/cunning enhancements seem to be really nice for an Assassin. Any reason not to go halfling for an assassin?

    Thanks.

Ive tried using the poisons some but cant say ive had alot of success with it.
I have a hafling assasin build i am currently leveling and it is a blast. Assasin II rocks! Having said that i have ran with a few elven rogues that are excellent assasins. So i would say it is really personal preference.

Hehe, I remember when that rogue I mentioned earlier got to level 6 and grabbed Assassin 1. I was thinking, "yay, poison!", but then never once saw it go off.

I guess I could just use it for the +2 bonus to hit I suppose... =\

    Anyway, with regards to race:

Would the extra +8 damage on sneak attacks cause me to gain substantially more aggro (therefore making the Elven rapier enhancements better) or would it be about the same either way?

halfings do better whens sneak attacking, but elves will next you better damage when not sneak attacking or attacking sutff that is immune. simple as that. You pick what you want.
Q&A is the business of pointing out others' failures. Optimists need not apply.

Elves will gain you + 2 damag/tohit with rapiers so that makes up a little of the +8 halflings get. Drow also make good assassins since they naturally get a bonus to int. Also they get the bonus to both rapier and shortsword so off hand wielding is a little easier. Especially when you for the early levels getting a good shortsword off the AH is easier than a good rapier.

All that being said my assassin is a halfling
