Slowdown Issues

Been experiencing slowdown or lag issues in group/raid quests. It was really bad in Tempest Spine. If it's the raid and spell effects I'm fine but when there are monsters thrown into the mix then i can hardly move. I've tried turning some things off to help performance but nothing worked. I'm using Windows 7, 2 gig's of ram, a 3.4 gig cpu, and a galaxy GeForce 9500 1gig video card. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Post your dxdiag when you get a chance (how to steps are in the "how to get help.." sticky linked in my sig)

Also go into Options > ADV Graphics and disable "Player Mesh Combining" and lower the Player Crowd Quality Control slider. Both of these can help in large crowd situations.

Mith, just what is "Player Mesh Combining" and "Player Crowd Quality" anyway? There are a lot of options but a devil of a time trying to figure out what each means. I can only take guesses which mean I could be hindering myself because I'm guessing what the option does.

Player Crowd Quality raises or lowers the detail of other players around you. The more detail, the longer it takes to render. If you are around a lot of other players, like in a raid, I would just lower it to 0.

Player Mesh Combining is supposed to speed up rendering of players around you, at the cost of memory, but sometimes it has negative effects, especially around a lot of players.

There are some things we do when running quests that are Lag monsters.

I posted a suggestion regarding a default that from what I can see causes needless lag for every user on the server.

About half way down are a dozen 'Turn off' Feedback items -
Have everyone in the party check all these boxes before going into a laggy area, Shroud, TOD, etc...

It is becoming a common practice that has been spreading to other groups wanting to complete raids instead of have lag death.

Getting any temporary fixes or workarounds on the forums where people can see them is at least usefull until a real fix comes around.

Hopefully in the next patch some lag improvements will be made.

I have nearly the same setup as the OP, same OS, Same Vid Card, Same amount of Memory, and i can hardly play the game. Ive turned everything all the way down that CAN be turned down, and everything that could be turned OFF is OFF. Still when i get in a large group or do anything intensive my FPS drop to maybe 1 every 2 secs, its rediculous. I know its not my Internet as it is fine and game runs A-OK on other OLDER computers in the home. Have my CPU usuage on my desktop and the settings either wicked high or wicked low seem to change very little.

I just went through a Shroud raid and it was really tough. Especially when the pets were added. I could hardly move at times. It's annoying me that the tech guy ask me to post a Dxdiag and hasn't responded since.

try lowering your framerate to 50-60 instead of unlimited it helped me alot with shroud lag

Yeah i noticed that too since we have near identical machines ad are having the same problem, I wonder if its a driver issue for windows 7?

EDIT: I actually have double that amount of RAM i was trouble shooting and forgot to put my real RAM in before i did the DIAG

Yeah i dont think its a ram issues considerring i you have double and i have quadrupal the recommended ammount.

Dont know if you still checking here Mega, but I troubleshooted all of my hardware and my processor was going out, that was my slowdown issue.

Try this, open up your userpreferences.ini file and make these changes:

* Change "AllowFakeFullScreen=True" to False
* Change "SyncToRefresh=False" to True
* Verify that the number following "Resolution=" matches your current Windows desktop resolution.
* Change "Antialiasing=" to Disabled if set to 2x/4x etc. (eg. Antialiasing=Disabled )
* Change "AllowDesktopCompositing=False to True

Exit out of the prefs file and when notepad asks to save changes choose yes, then launch the game and make these changes from the in-game Options menu:

* Under "ADV Graphics" disable the "Player Mesh Combining" setting
* Lower the "Player Crowd Quality Control" slider to 0
* Under Audio if currently using a "Hardware" mode, change this to one of the "Software" settings
* Under the Troubleshoot section lower the Engine Speed
* Set the Maximum Frames Per Second slider to 57.

I would definitely open a support request if you haven't yet, as it might need more in-depth troubleshooting.
