    Default Quarterstaff Damage

I'm making a 15wiz/3rog/2fighter, with the two Fighter feats going to Weapon Focus X and Improved Criticals X. Only I'm not sure what to take: Bludgeon or Slash. From a conceptual perspective, I would prefer to use a staff to melee, but I'm worried the damage will fall way behind what a Great Sword or Great Axe would dish out. I assume there are Monk-centric staffs but do they require the Monk class and do they only deal good damage combined with Monk feats? Lastly, if such weapons exist, are they difficult to find, I don't want to be stuck waiting until level 18 to find a good staff to melee with.

A quarterstaff would be a horrible choice for melee in your case.
They have dinky base damage and the worst crit range and modifier.

    They are for
-people who have simple weapon proficiency but want a 2 handed weapon
-rogues with the acrobat enhancement line
-monks who want a 2-handed weapon for some reason.

    However Mauls arent so bad.

Thanks, that's what I figured. In that case I'd rather go slashing for Great Sword/Axe than Mauls/Clubs.
