One sorc and his dog... advice?

I love warforged, and like the idea of being a caster who can heal himself so i've decided to be a sorceror.

I equally love the idea of having a robot dog, so i'm gonna go for an iron companion.

However, my question is:

1. Is the dog any good? Not that it matters, i'm probably gonna have it anyway.

2. Could i get some advice on a few choice spells to pick? I was just gonna go with the arcane cannon's spell choices, but i was wondering why it only has 1 repair spell on it until basically the end (but i'm guessing with the spell point system, that 1 is all you need.)

Unless I'm mistaken (and I very well may be) that build's spell selection is set for end game utilizing the spell swap option throughout it's career. He only ends with 1 repair spell because the rest were traded out as the next higher level became available.
This is what I do with mine anyway.... but I keep the 2 highest instead of one. Even if it repairs less, the second one can be cast before the first is repeated, and that has saved my toon's azz more times than I can count.

Well, the Iron Companions have a terrible tendency to Grease you onto your arse, so I wouldn't really go with it.

It's as "dumb" as the other summons, and tends to be annoying with grease, but if you like to solo it's something else that help draw aggro and keep the monsters from killing you.

Character wise it's kind of a fun idea to have a Warforged and his companion construct dog.

I love pulling them out on my repair-marked human Bard and sicking it on the party. "It's a party summon!"
