Help! Stuck on 6 months

Old player returning to check out the new F2P DDO. I started DDO as a paid subscription payer back in 2006.

My credit card on file expired.
Wanted to pay for 1 month (to delete my excess characters until I had only 4) and then go to F2P.

Couldn't seem to make any changes at http://myaccount.turbine.com/ until I updated my credit card info. So I did that and then chose the monthly plan.

But now it says I'm being charged for 6 months on my old plan and the month-to-month will only start after that time.

I don't want to pay for 6 months. I want to pay for 1 month.

Should I cancel my subscription and re-sign up for monthly? Will that make me lose anything?

If you've already selected the 6 month plan, you'll likely need to contact the Account Management department to change it. You can call (which I recommend) or email.

As explained in the VIP-Downgrade file on this forum, you do not need to delete the characters. The excess characters can stay behind waiting until someday maybe you resubscribe or purchase individual character slots.

I will. Trouble is I'm out of the country so the time difference makes it difficult.

So my goal is to clear out their inventories and then trash them, one by one, until all that is left are my currently active characters (which is around 4-5). Then I can just pay for one character slot using my Turbine points instead of spending real world cash for a subscription I don't need.

Yes, and there is no reason to delete any character to do that. You can transfer off their non-bound loot without deleting them. Then when you go non-VIP you can pick just the 4-5 you want and leave the rest retired.

I see what you mean. The only issue would if I ever wanted to create a new character. From what I’ve read, when you get a new slot you need to use it for any old character in your list.

But now that I see there is a shared bank amongst characters, I should be able to use that (and buy it so it's permanent) to help with the stuff left over from slaughtering my mules.
