    Default Necklace of Contemplation

Is the Necklace of Contemplation a rare drop or something? I have completed that quest (Caverns of Korromar) almost to the point of ransacking the chests and I haven't found one yet. I understand the necklace should be found in R'zzik's chest. I take that to mean the end chest after killing R'zzik the beholder and the skeletons in there with him.

    Am I missing something?

    Thanks,
    Ez

Most named items are rare enough that 8 runs isn't enough to reliably get one; the necklace is no different, though it's droprate isn't super bad

if you ransacked it with a group of 6, you'd probably see one or two along the way.

Thanks for the reply. I've only run it 7 times solo.
I guess I just need to keep on chugging.

    Thanks again,

If you loot the same chest 10 times in a one week period you will no longer pull lvl appropriate gear from the chest. You will pull masterwork or worse weapons etc from a lvl 18 chest.

You get a pretty clear warning message when you loot a chest for which you are at or near the ransack limit.

I believe it is one week from the last time you have opened a chest. Please correct if wrong.

He is wrong, it's one week from the -first time- you opened the chest since it last reset from ransack.

If you loot a chest once on monday, then on friday you run it to ransack, it will reset on monday.

How hard would it be to ransack everything, not counting things behind lockout timers?

If you are on Cannith contact me in game and I'll sell one to you - I have 12. Have personally had it drop for me 2x on the beholder's chest, the other 2x it dropped for someone in the party and I offered them some money for it. Think I've run it about 10x.

Thanks for the offers and info all. I am on Salona, so thanks anyhow. I ended up ransacking without finding one. Better luck next week I guess.

It's just random, I ran that on my monk over and over to get that necklace, but it never dropped. Ran in on my barb, and pulled 3 of them in about 10 runs.

You're better off with the Korthos Neck/Boot set anyways, in my opinion. And the Korthos goggles too of course.

I can't really agree with you on that, at least at lvl 11 where my char is. There is probably something better than this necklace for my lvl, but I'm not sure what it is and I'm likely not able to get it or afford it anyhow. Also, I have a really nice pair of boots that I'd rather keep on. As for the goggles, I am still wearing those lacking anything better to put there.

    Thanks again,
    Ez

I'm not sure the necklace and goggles will work together. I think I tried that back in the day, and it's why I go with the Goggles + Neck/Boot setup instead. Things could have changed, or I could be misremembering. I can check tonight if I think about it, or maybe someone else knows.

And yeah, after level 9 or so I ditch the Neck/Boot set and just keep the goggles, didn't realize you were that high.

Yeah, aside from situational uses (such as blindness ward or trapblast when needed), there's really no useful goggles besides those goggles of insight for a monk until you can make greensteel ones. With that in mind, I highly recommend using the +1 competence bonus to saves alchemical effect on the insight goggles at the stone of change as soon as you can. It sure would be nice to see more variety in goggles in general, though.

The Korthos sets are pretty useful, but there's a lot of other items to consider replacing them with. The necklace slot is a good spot to use for +con, +wis, or +protection items. Most people toss necklaces of these types on the brokers or for cheap on the AH, so you can pick up some good ones cheap if you're lucky. Gloves are a good spot for +dex or +str, and boots are a good spot for either +dex, the golden greaves (15% stride and DR 3/-), or firestorm greaves (some amount of fire resist and 33% fire damage absorption). All of these make replacing the Korthos sets an easy choice. With the Pathfinders set, the only thing you're really going to lose is the +1 to attack and maybe the striding, neither of which are going to impact you much. The Anger's Wrath set is pretty useful, but +dex boots and a +wis necklace can give you much better protection which will likely be more useful than the set's bonuses.
