Ok so there are some symbols in game. Keep in mind that most of the symbols thought to be associated with the occult and the masons are actually stolen from other sources. Its association. Its the same reason that the Nazi's took a holy symbol from sanskrit with strong ties to Buddhism, which some believe to be the root of many monotheistic holy writings. These brotherhoods and associations don't just pop into existence, they are created by people, people who have a history before it (and most likely have delved into religions and spiritualism).
That being said, I do have an issue with clubs and sects as there are a number of things you cannot do without being members of certain groups. Still, if you have an issue with "occult symbols" I suggest you burn out your eyesockets...

A lot of artists deliberately learn about symbolism and historical art styles because it can help to inform the work. I wouldn't be at all surprised to find that it was a part of the creative process for creating the art in this game. If you're going to have Houses, why not base them in part on a history that goes back centuries, and reflect that ambience by the use of symbols based on that?
There's a definite Freemason influence, as well as Aztec and others, as some other people in the thread have mentioned. It's also definitely a Western basis for the art rather than an Asian basis.
I find it more sinister that we adventurers work for favor from "The Coin Lords" than that the art has symbolism in it.![]()

My father, grandfather, and greatgrandfather was a Mason. Pastmaster for all.
If I didn't hate having to socialize like that I would be a Mason so that I can use all their secrets to mind controll the humans on the planet to do my bidding.

I once knew a mason from Nantucket.
Let's just say the stories about him were grossly exaggerated.
