Default Could You Fix The Keymap Issue Please!

I just purchased an xbox 360 controller to replace my Logitech which died recently.

Problem is when I try to set the controller up in key mapping section the game accepts the keybinds until I restart the client; at that point the game decides that it doesnt like my mappings and sets buttons to where I have not set them.

This extremely aggrevating and has made the game unplayable for me, at this point i'm considering whether it is worth me paying a monthly fee for something that is unplayable (for me at least).

    Angry Been there, done that.

I'm STILL awaiting for someone to tell me how to save my key mappings. EVERY time I log to play, I have to reconfigure my Key Mappings. <sheesh> So I'm there wit ya bro.

The game is restoring the default keys and dislike you for disliking them.
So far the only advice i found in the forums or via google is setting the ddo.keymap file to read-only.

Not a technical issue so you won't get much help here. Sorry.

Now that said I'm going to suggest things (and you won't like the start of it.)

    1. reset you keymappings to default.
    2. close the game. reaname the key mapping file to something new.
    3. restart the game. This should create a brand new keymapping file.

((at this point use something to compare the two files. notepad++ has a built in comparison tool, and the software is free. If they are not the same, the major issue was in your original file and the game was not able to correct for it. I've had this issue before.)

    4. remap your keys in the method you want. Do this in parts, close the game and make copies of yoru keyfile at each stage.
    5. compare these keyfile steps. It is possible that a singular setting is messing it all up. By finding the one that is at issue, you will be able to fill out a more accurate bug report that could get it fixed by update... 4 is my guess. (update 2 is coming in about a week which means that 3 is in final stage testing. I really doubt this would be priority enough to make it in. So that leaves update 4 at earliest.)

There are known issues with a few rekeying so look those up in known issues to see if what you are trying to do will work.

Known driver issue with xbox 360 M.S. drivers: pulling both triggers results in zero, aka no button pressed. Some programs make adjustments for this, I do not know if Turbine is one such that has done so.

edit: this is based on XP knowledge. I do not know how Vista or 7 act.

I've tried many things already. I've made the file read-only, it still overwrites my mappings (and I know I'm looking at the correct file because it is being overwritten in the file). It shouldn't even really be able to do that...

Without getting into insane detail, I'm only trying to modify two things from default. Push to talk and autotarget toggle. I usually change push to talk to G (clearing out F first) and autotarget gets cleared (I don't want to turn off autotargeting via a keyboard shortcut anyway) when I add G to push to talk. Every time I close and reopen the client it will add F to push to talk.

How is this not a technical issue?

Technical implies a settings (options), software, or hardware issue.

What are you dealing with is a game bug issue.

You may need to hand craft your own ddo keymapping. That is something I had to do ultimately to fix my issue with mouse control camera settings.

It has been reported as a bug many times now, and again just recently (and really where else am I supposed to post about this?). I can't hand craft my own ddo keymapping because it is overwriting my settings and ignoring the read only attribute.

The above was back in October. Still not fixed. Still not a known issue.

A problem with the default keys is that if you remove them they will be put back on the next login even if the file is read-only.
To get rid of them a trick is to set them, all the keys you dont want to be on use, to an unused hotbar like the fifth hireling hotbar.

This will be for all the common letters that you don't want to be activated like "T" and "G" whenever you misclick out of the chat box thus failing to type your message, cluttering your screen with popups and also on no-mic fights halting your autoattacks.

After setting the keys to taste don't forget to alt-tab to desktop to go set the file as read-only.
