Help my AC

I currently have a Drow pure Paladin (level 10) and my AC is sitting at 35, 37 in def fighting mode ( unbuffed with sword and board). From what I am reading on these forums, that is very sub-par for my level. Here is what I have and some of my stats

+5 full plate (+1 Alchemical Enhancement from stone of change)
+5 heavy steel shield
Ring of Protection +1
20 Dex
Bullwark of good I

I do not have a ton of plat to spend on mithiril armor ( +4 or 5 costs upward of 2 million on my server).

Are there any items that I can farm to get a btter AC, and where would I find these items for my current level? Where does Mith Platemail drop? I make sure to do the optionals in the quests I run, but it seems I am unable to pull decent AC boosting loot from chests.

Well first of all you want mithral armor and shield to take advantage of your 20 Dex, as it is your Dex to AC is capped at 1. I think that is cap for normal full plate.

I know, I do want mith plate, the problem is the price of it at the AH, and I do not know where it drops (which level quests)

As Letrii said, your Dex is completely wasted. Mithril Full Plate is the best solution but even a a Mithril or Darkwood Brestplate might give you a better AC. The Kundarak Delving Suit from VoN is also a great item if you have a 22 Dex or better. So if you can get in on a dragon raid, you might get lucky. You also need to upgrade your Protection item to at least +3. There's a helmet you can find in the Desert Explorer area that's +3 and it's a random enchantment on cloaks and rings. If you're going AC, you might want to look into (Mithril) Tower Shields and the Defender of Syberis PrE. Also, make sure to buy a bunch of +3 Barkskin potions and drink them when you don't have a Bark from a Ranger. The Chaosguards from Xorian Cypher are also good for your level.


But a word of caution, from this point out, AC gear will be almost entirely Raid gear and rare drops that cost a fortune on the AH. You will probably also need to make feat investments like Combat Expertise, Tower Shield Proficiency and Dodge. If you're not prepared to make the investment, you'd probably be better of switching to a DPS focus and forgetting about AC.

mith armor/shields is generally random drops.

barks pot:+3 natural, costs plat,vendor bought
ranger barks: +3-5

Sof pot: +3 deflection, costs plat, vendor bought
spectacular optics: +3 deflection, easyish, threnal series
iron manacles: +4 deflection, umd20(/chaotic), deleras

recitation spell: +2 luck

combat expertise: +3 over def fighting
dodge feat: +1

haste:+1

Paladin Defender of Sibery's Stance: +2 stance

weapon of parrying: +1 insight

bulwark II:+1 enhancement

chaosgarde: +2 dodge, possibly hard to get, xorian cipher
chattering ring: +3 dodge, fairly hard to get, restless isles:titan raid
shield ritual: +1

kundarak delving suit: +1 over +5 fullplate, +2 if you can buff dex to 22, VoN raid loot
Jinx's Vexation: mith FP, hard to get, cursed crypt

blocking: +2

Can get the enhancements for +3 and be sure to carry at least some pots if needed to get you to 46(50 blocking w tower shield). With the right party pushing you up a bit you can get some 4 more. Chaosgarde is fairly feasible to get, fun quest so not too painful to grind.

If it's not enough carry a 2h weapon and know when to swap.

your best chances is to go to get skyvault shield at lvl12 then farm gianthold i see much mith pulled there.

Mithral plates drop the same place as regular ones, just .. you know, like 5% of all plates are mithral. That's why they're expensive.

You should have a higher protection item (+4 is available at level 11), and are elligible for bulwark of good II as well.

You could also add chaosgarde (+2 dodge ac bracers from Xorian Cipher) and potions of barkskin +3 (sold in house Jorasco). Just upgrading your protection item, using bark pots (or using shield of faith +3 pots, which are equivalent to a protection +3 item), and getting Bulwark II would increase your ac by 6.

The 4 more you could get from a +5 mfp and chaosgarde are just gravy after that.

More realistically, if you aren't designed to be an ac focused character (and you don't have combat expertise, so Im guessing you aren't), its time to transition into your dps mode and not worry much about ac. THF should start now, and twf at level 12.
