    Default metalline+pure good

    Hello,
I must say DDO rocks! First time toon, long time fan. I need some advice! I've been flagged for the Shroud run in Vale of Twilight for some time now. My problem is most groups want you to have boss beater, which I'm told is a Metalline+Pure Good. My question is "Is there a certain quest or Adventure pack that has more of a chance for you to come across one?" I've been watching the auction house for one, but they are so darn expensive that it will take me a month to save up for one Or, what quest could I run that would produce the most money for my toon? I would really appreciate some help on how I may obtain a Metalline+Pure Good weapon, being that this is my first toon. Any advice is better than none...lol I just need a push in the right direction I thank you for your time in reading this and Darthen my toon thanks you for your advice.

p.s. May your sword be swift and your edge be sharp! Good hunting.

They can be hard to find, and do sell for a pretty penny.

First place to start is don't just look for your "preferred" weapon type, check the odd ones, like heavy mace or club, you might be more likely to find one.

If you are in an established guild, ask in guild chat. Without a doubt someone will have something to give you, or at least lend you.

Finally if you can find another really nice weapon, like a holy of greater evil outsider bane, that will work just fine (even the GEOB on its own isn't horrible on normal). Groups weak enough to demand you show your DR breakers may not realize this, but the world won't end with a few people with less than perfect weapons.

It does amaze me how the prices on these have gone insane. They used to be a dime a dozen (enough that most players had significantly better boss beaters and vendor-trashed these unless they had a lowbie coming up). But to answer your question, no, there is no specific place these drop unless you are looking for handwraps (and that's a very rare drop in my experience).

They are very expensive--but some less than others.

Look for blunt weapons (I see quite a few maces). These tend to go for much less. Not ideal weapons--but they do break DR and let you get your STR/power attack/sneak attack/etc. to go through (a rogue wielding metaline of pure good daisies would still put a out a lot of damage). I've also seen quite a few bastard swords. Even if you don't have bastard sword proficiency, they can be decent weapons as the boss AC isn't that high in the Shroud.

Met/pure good is not your only option as a harry beater. Holy(burst)/ silver, silver/pure good and metalline/flametouched iron will work as well. All of these combinations will bypass his DR. This might help expand your search a little. Good Luck.

This. My main uses dwaven Axes that are generally priced through the roof, but was able to find 2 Battle Axes Met of PG for about 40k each. You will eventually find you preferred wep with Met of PG

Since the OP asked, I suggest running quests in the IQ and Amrath. I have had a few drop there. Also, check the weapons vendors in those areas just in case someone was silly enough to sell one. Also, check the AH. You might get lucky and find one cheap. As others suggested, look for less popular weapons. (i.e. axes, maces, hammers)

Default auction house search may help

With update 7, these things should be easier to search for - especially on non-optimal weapons. They can't be THAT rare though that you'd never come across one up to level 20. I put up a ML 10 Holy Silver Warhammer for 3 days on Sarlona last week that never even got a bid at the modest minimum I put on it.

While it might contribute to scarcity (since all the undervalued ones will be snatched up faster), at least it will save you time and you won't have to wonder what you're missing.

Try the brokers in House D, Ataraxia's Haven, Reavers Refuge and Amrath. Try the marketplace trade channel /trade WTB boss beater. Run quests level 13 and above and search end rewards carefully. You might find at least something.

I would definitely suggest asking around in your guild. I know that I tend to save any DR beaters I pull, I don't usually auction them. Then I can loan them out to good players until they are able to make their own greensteel.

look for lowbie versions also. Metalline of Pure Good weapons (not handwraps) are ml 6 (4 with a RR). I have several +1 metalline of pure good items in my bank.

One of my guildies adviced this, look for something more specific in the lower level range, sometimes a new player will sell something uber without having a clue.

Ex: Second in command of my guild purchased a Level 6 Greatswords: +2 Shock Silver Greatsword of Pure Good. Like 10k plat.

Only a level 6 weapon but omg that is one nice boss beater.

Probably best you'll ever obtain: +X Holy Burst Silver WEAPON of Greater Evil Outsider Bane.

Best of luck in the Vendors.

Also, remember, if you are running on normal, DR breakers are nice, but not nearly as critical. If the choice is between a bad (for you) DR breaker and a good (for you) weapon that won't break the DR, look at how much damage you are saving by breaking the DR. If my choice is between a metaline dagger of pure good and an anarchic burst kopesh of maiming, I'm going with the kopesh. On normal. Past normal the line starts moving quick...

Had a frost bastard sword of greater dragon bane. Lovely weapon when sword-and-board tanking the dragon as "The Hero". Frost 2x'd on his fire ass.

I've used holy burst puregood with no real problems .. I was using greatswords and picked them up fairly cheaply.. have just changed to paired scimitars and managed to do the same ( less than 10k on each .. on Sarlona that is) .... tho I did pick up a silver pg for about.twice as much and a and a met pg for four times as much ( scims again)

As a thought , and I'm sure a less newbie will be able to say if its a viable alternative( .. I'm not sure about proficiency penalties) the much hated b'std swords are usually quite cheap ...

    A) Greater bane is fine on normal, since it does an average of 14.5 damage and his dr is 15.

    B) Bastard swords are very cheap, try out the bastard sword section and just hit him once with destruction or improved destruction to make up for the fact that you're not proficient. That should tide you over until you get a better one

I'd check the Marketplace forum for your server, or post a request there. The prices you find from people that frequent the forums will usually be much more reasonable than you'll find for decent weapons on the AH, particularly for the lower-end DR breakers.
