Hypnosis is better.

Dont know why they carried over the low hd limit for sleep but not hypno from PnP. Makes one useful and the other completely worthless.
I love the hypno spell, it's the first spell any caster should get, and its useful for pretty much the entire game.
I was playing with a Wizard today who was using sleep. He pointed out a couple of other benefits to sleep:
1) The mobs go prone which makes them less likely to get targeted by wild-swinging melee players in your group.
2) Because the mobs go prone, even when they are hit, they take a little time getting up which gives you a little extra time without taking damage.
I'd have to say that as one of those who was swinging a sword, I may have targeted them a bit less because of them being prone when sleeping...
I still think Hypno's better though.

Sleep is only modestly effective during the levels when its effective at all.
Hypno, as has been stated, is good well into higher levels.
For a Wizard, there is little harm in learning both... but I'd never take Sleep on a Sorcerer.![]()
Hypno, hands down, ftw. I still use it as cc sometimes at lvl 12 lol
Q&A is the business of pointing out others' failures. Optimists need not apply.
