    Default FvS - something different

I have a lvl 18 Drow Sorc, first major toon, and am thoroughly enjoying it. I am preparing a different one, namely an FvS, but would like to break from the usual 2 molds I see here: WF FvS or FvS with 2 Monk levels. It is a risky idea for a new player to do, but really more of the massively same isn't very enticing.

Mostly I seek a DPS build with some heals (but not a full-time healer) and have been looking at the other splashes. AFAIK the 2 levels of Monk is to get Evasion, unless there is something else I missed. Being a noob I have to ask, is there a reason no one ever mixes more than 2 levels to the FvS?

If only 2 levels, I considered also 2 of Barbarian with Rage (only if needed for pure fighting of course) and Uncanny Dodge, 2 of ranger for TWF feat, or even 2 of Fighter with the extra feats.

If more then I need to know what is so vital I cannot live without, short of being crippled.

You want 18 levels in FvS so you get a single 9th level spell, and less than that will become very noticeable in relation to spell penetration. Also Monk gives AC bonus from wisdom, so that helps too. Extra feats as well.

I have a monk/fvs that is a bit awkward at the moment, but also a rogue/fvs drow.

The idea with rogue is evasion, UMD for arcane buffs (ss wands, blur wands etc) and sneak attack with rapiers/shortsword. Rogues also have haste boost. The blindness spell becomes even better!

Monk2: 2 feats, Evasion, Wis AC bonus
Rogue2: Evasion, UMD skill, can use light armor, +1 Dex enhancement, 5x per rest +15% attack speed boost
Fighter2: 2 feats, +1 Str enhanc, 5x per rest +15% attack speed boost
Paladin2: Divine Grace, Cha saves bonus

If you don't like 'monk', then maybe:
    - Rog2/FvS18
    - Pal2/FvS18
    - Rog2/Pal2/FvS16
    - Rog2/Fighter2/FvS16
If you can tolerate 'monk', then replace 'Rog2' with 'Monk2'.

If you want 'dps', then TWF mode is best. THF would also be ok-ish. Sword&shield not.

But as FvS, you'd also want to use weapon that gets FvS specific bonus. Greatsword if WF (the only 2hander), Longsword (any race), Shortsword (Drow), Scimitar (Elf).

Thats also why more battle oriented FvSs are WF with Greatsword, Elfs with dual Scimitars (Elfs also get extra racial bonus for scimmy) and sometimes Drow with dual Shortswords (same trick as Elf-Scimitar).

"No one" is a bit overexaggerating ...

The capstone for FvS is really nice - it would take a lot for me to give this up, and I personally wouldn't for anything, at the moment

2 monk splash gets mentioned a lot
18 FvS for 9th level spell
17 FvS for wings (don't see how you could build a FvS that doesn't get to 17 ...)

Why not just build a fighter with healing marks, or pally LoH, or something?

Have not checked it out but I sume you could do more fo heavy multiclassing on FvS
Like 12 lvl FvS for "heal"
6 lvl Ranger for bonus to twf (PrE)
2 lvl Monk for feats and wis AC and evasion, 2 lvl figher for feat, 2 lvl Rogue for UMD sneak and evasion
