    Default Armor for a Bard

Hi guys, have a quick question. Is there a certain type of Armor I should shoot for as a bard? I am wearing Chain mail right now but I am worried that it may be too heavy to conflict with my spells.

Thanks for any tips you can give in reference to Armor. You all take care.

Light armor... leather, chain shirt, dark leaf etc... that way you dont get Arcane spell failure.

I am kind of messing around with some robes. I am not very good at calculating the math like many on here, but I am starting to think AC is not very important LOL! I have some robes with some good effects on them and most of my AC is comming from a high dex...

The jury is still out though...

Still running Mith Chain on my Bards... Crippling Shirt at the upper levels. Yeah I know.... it's so Mod 8...but D-Touch is a pain...and no matter what I do...the Crippling Shirt still offers a better armor for me.

At low levels, the best light armor you can find. Keep a special eye out for "mithral" as Rav'n mentioned. Mithral allows medium armor to become light so "mirthral breast plate" is the highest AC option for you.

By L12ish you may find you can't keep up meaningful AC, particularily if your playstyle doesn't include a shield. At that point you can either stick with the armor for looks or move to robes for faster changeout. Either way at that point you'd be looking for armor effects not the AC (eg - lightning guard, greater acid resistance, greater false life, etc)

My bard always had a +5 mithral breastplate on, I haven't played him in over a year so I'm not sure what the cool kids are wearing now.

Mithral or Darkleaf breatplates are awesome.

If you want dragontouched armor, the best you can get without a spell failure chance is leather.

If your dexterity bonus is +8 or higher, you're probably better off using robes or outfits and get a +8 armor bonus either on them or on a set of bracers.

Above level 12 or so, unless you have a bunch of AC buffs on top of your armor, you're better off using Displacement/Stoneskin and just picking up armor with useful, non-AC-related effects, such as the Breastplate of Destruction.
