    Angry !!!impossible Color Puzzles!!!

I just tried to run The Pit, and I'm as mad as a kobold at a kissing convention!

It's not my stinkin fault!!! I'm COLORBLIND. From Birth. There's nothing I can do about it. Lots of men are colorblind... SO WHY THE FREAKIN HECK AREN'T THE COLOR PUZZLE's KEY PANELS FREAKIN LABELED, LIKE STINKIN CRAYONS ARE?!?!?!

WHY DO YOU THINK CRAYONS ARE LABELED FOR LITTLE KIDS?!? BECAUSE SOME OF THEM ARE FREAKIN COLORBLIND!!! Just turn your monitor black and white, and then try doing the stupid puzzle: then you'll know my frustration.

Some Examples: The Pit, Tangleroot, Haywire... FIX THEM!

CHANGE ALL OF THE STUPID COLOR PUZZLES SO THAT 'HANDICAPPED' PEOPLE LIKE MYSELF CAN DO THEM TOO. MAKE ALL THE FREAKIN THINGS 'SELECTABLES' THAT DON'T DO ANYTHING BUT TELL YOU WHAT FREAKIN COLOR THEY ARE.

Hmmmmmm.... I wonder what lawyers think of things like this?!? No Handicapped Access... Hmmmmm.....

STOP PEELING THE STINKIN LABELS OFF MY FREAKIN CRAYONS, PEOPLE!!!

This is less of a suggestion and more of a NEEDS TO FREAKIN HAPPEN kind of thing.

And yes; I used colors!!! I had to get my son to pick them out!!!

This issue does really need to be addressed by the devs. I just did a quick google and on the wiki it says for males colour blindness in an average male population is from 4-10% depending on the ethnicity and type of colour blindness.

Do you really want to lose/annoy/upset that proportion of your paying player base?

While a very real issue I suppose (although one I hadn't thought about until now), does anyone else see the irony in him using 2 other colors besides the standard white in his post???

I think it definately couldnt hurt, even as an clickable option the UI or something. Then as you highlighted it, it would say something like - Lever (red) or Panel (blue). Doesnt sound to hard, but i dont build games either....

Perhaps asking NICELY would work? If this was your 5th request, then I can understand your outburst - but when asking 1st time - and then freaking out? Not a good way to communicate.

I'm sure the devs were probably unaware of the issue (and probably still are since I doubt they even read this forum!).

Quite a few other MMO's have a "colour blind mode" with an alternate pallet of colours. That shouldn't be too technically difficult..

Despite everything about the form, tone, and attitude of the OP, he is correct. They should fix that.
    Almost nearly always: Ghallanda
Most likely: Heisenberg, Landau, Boltzmann, Sommerfeld, Rutherford, Bohr, Tezla, and Dirac.
But also: Vigner, Minkowski, Schrodinger, Fermi, Hartree, Sternn, Gerlach, and others.

Mmmm....not to be insensitive or nothing, but if you are fully colorblind, there are some things maybe you just can't do (like, I dunno, attempt a coloured puzzle alone).

Roleplay the handicap away if it makes you feel better, but I am definately against modification of the game to address individual player deficiencies...especially when someone makes the request in such a ****y manner.

you kidding right! so your take on this is to hell with all people with special needs . jeez louise that is sad . I hope you are fortunate enough to go your whole life without a hitch but mabey it would be a good life lesson for you if something did happen to you so you could understand the hardships people with dissabilities go through on a daily basis . very poor form on your part imo and trust me if i could ,the negative rep would be comming ....nuf said

You are not alone! I find that when running a Reaver you will have 3 colorblind people, 3 that pretend to be colorblind because they can't do puzzles, 3 that complain no one has a solver, 2 that stand at the chests waiting for their free loot, and 1 that actually does the puzzle.

But on a serious note, I to have difficulty with color puzzles due to having a 3 seperate color deficiencies. I do not solo the quests that have color puzzles and let those when in group know that I absolutely can not help with the puzzles.

But rest assured, you can always be the guy on the lever when they say hit it!

This has actually come up a few times in the past.

I was running the pit last night and I noticed that the wheels specifically stated their color (Red Puzzle Wheel) and I thought to myself, as I had on every previous occasion of seeing the color in the name, that it was a fairly new addition for people who are color blind. I didn't realize until reading your post that the symbols on the wall doesn't state their colors, making the change worthless.

I suppose it would be more handy for color blind people in groups where the color is being said aloud to allow them to participate in actually turning the wheel. It doesn't help much if you're solo though.

I guess my point is that the devs are aware of the challenge people who are color blind face on their colored puzzles. If you bug report it, it may go on the 'known issues we may someday get around to looking at list'.

And how far do you think this would go? Once you open up that door, you have to start adding features for several types of handicaps. Maybe the OP should, I dunno, find a way to compensate for his problem on his own? I know a few handicapped people who *hate* the way everyone treats them like babies. They want to be treated like everyone else, and overcome their deficiencies, not be considered "special needs".

While I apologize for my bytchy tone, I had just ran The Pit and had come up against a solid color brick wall: I was mad. Being mad at 2:00 am may lead to bytchyness.

Also, If u read the last line of my post, you will see that I did have to use my son's eyes to choose the colors... My use of color text got your attention, which was the whole point of this post... Hopefully you weren't so distracted by the shiny colors that you actually got my real point.

I REALLY REALLY REALLY doubt that the dev's actually read ANY of this stuff, but if it's a big enough issue, it might somehow catch their eye. Most of the suggestions offered by players seem to be stoically ignored by anyone with any power to do something about it.

"... find a way to compensate for it on my own..." Wow. Your intelligence astounds me... the way to compensate for it is TO ASK OTHERS TO HELP ME. Genius. If they were textually labeled, I wouldn't need someone else's help. I can see the symbols on them clearly, just not the colors. It's humiliating to have to ask everyone what color everything is.

Are you colorblind? Are you handicapped in any way? Would it cost you ANYTHING for this to be implemented?

I suspect the answer to all these questions is "No". If you've personally experienced being handicapped in some way, why would you begrudge anyone who asks for something like this? Granted, it's not the same as being a paraplegic, or being blind or deaf, but it is a handicap. While implementing some kind of compensation for a blind person would not be very realistic in terms of DDO, this is something that IS realistic, and would be easy.

Yes, I can and do deal with it, but there's no good reason why I have to, other than to please uninformed, insensitive people like you.

i guess you think special needs is a dirty word....it is not! mabey you should let us know here how putting the word for the color on the squares would lessen the fun you get in the game? it should not matter to you one bit ...but i see that it does!

Gorby, you make some good points. Thanks.

The devs may be aware of it, but they didn't get it right yet, as you pointed out. The wheels have been labeled for a long time, just never the wall keys.

It never occurred to me to report it as a bug because nothing is really "wrong" with the programming... but reporting it that way sounds like a great idea.

Again, thanks for the constructive input.

No; asking nicely just gets you ignored nicely.
