Then we have posts asking to allow same sex marriage in game. Then we have posts complaining that it's not moral to allow same sex marriage, etc. etc. etc. In the end, marriage was not included.
First, your posts throughout the thread aren't of a different tone or inclination than the ones earlier on, so I could have quoted any for my response. Save your indignation for when its warranted.

Second, your example isn't even remotely related. Not only is it an example of something completely unnecessary, but it does nothing to support your point--that enacting one change would enable others--since they didn't enact it, so you have no clue as to whether doing so would have had any bearing upon possible future such additions.

We're not talking about making some change to the game to facilitate role-playing, or dumbing the game down for everyone, nor about catering to every shmo who has a handicap, as many cannot be addressed in this context. We're talking about a fairly simple change, and one which (apparently) other MMOs do feature. It does nothing to detract from the gameplay of anyone else.

As a fellow gamer with a similar issue, I appreciate it being brought up again, but wish you could have used a bit gentler tone/language. I have been playing for a long while, and have run into the color problems numerous times. To combat this, my friends I tend to run with know I can't see colors right, and have helped me alot in this.
Over time, I have learned which rune the wheels in several quests have to be set to, and I like the fact that the wheels are labeled for which color they pertain to. I do agree that simply setting the runes as able to be examined, or even changing the graphic slightly so that the color name is inside the gem or something, would be fairly easy to accomplish and wouldn't even really take much more than 3-4 lines of program code, done properly.
Basically, this would not slow down the other projects, as changing the graphic should not take an artist more than 10 minutes, and that should really only need to be done in a few spots, dependant on where and how the graphic artifacts were setup initially.

In any event, I have been gifted with friends willing to help me where I could absolutely not accomplish things alone, and I truly thank them, and they know whom I am speaking to with that thanks. As for when I do pug groups, I tend to fill roles that do not necessitate my working unfamiliar color-wheels/puzzles, and allow those suited to them to work on those while I keep mobs off their tails, or heal/work on a trap, whatever.

It would be nice to not need the help, but life is very rarely fair. If this change is added, I for one would really appreciate it. If it does not get done, I'll simply call on my friends once more, and we'll get thru it together.

Huh, I guess you could have quoted this one then:
I see no reason to spend developer time on this, no more than they should add in custom keymapping and macros for one handed players. I've read a few posts from people who play this game who only have one hand, and you know what? They found a way around it on their own.

As a previous poster mentioned, there are programs that you can get that will alter the colors on your screen to a more colorblind palette. The OP may have discovered this sooner if he would have asked nicely, but he went on a rant, so this thread ended up going on way longer than it should have.

It's completely related. Opening the door to one type of change is like opening a can of worms. If they added a handicap accessible feature into the game, they would have to add various other features for various other handicaps. How else can you explain braille markings on drive-thru ATMs?

What you see as a "simple" change, may take years to complete. How long has it been that barbarians haven't been able to drink certain potions while raging? hmm. Simple fix right?

Caretakers bringing a blind person to the bank for a quick withdrawal without necessarily having access to the person's account? That'd be my guess behind the logic, but it still does not apply here, though at elast this example is better than your attempt in the previous one.

What other changes would be made to DDO?

It obviously isn't difficult to make this sort of change, since they have already made part of it by adding color-name text to wheels in various places around the game. This isn't a bug fix, or a coding fix, it's a simple art addition. Maybe some minor coding, but we're not talking about something that has bearing upon multiple facets of the game.

Honestly, what kind of slippery slope could we possibly have here? Can't add braille, can't add ramps, we already have text to go along with DM narration, and already have both voice chat and text-based chat options. What exactly are you afriad this is going to "open the door" to?

You can't say it isn't a difficult change because they already added color names to the wheels, those wheels have been in game forever, modifying a string variable so that the color shows up instead of "Rune Wheel" is a pretty simple fix.

In The Pit, in the security room, they would either have to just write "Red, Blue, Green" on the graphic itself, which I doubt they would do, or they would have to make the little rune pictures selectable, which would require creating new interactive objects, so you can click on them and have them show up in your selection orb. We have levers, switches, and rune puzzles that we've seen re-used *countless* times in this game. The same puzzle floor tiles are used over and over, which tells me they don't like creating new objects for every quest. I can't see this being a "simple" fix with "minor" coding.

I do agree that simply setting the runes as able to be examined, or even changing the graphic slightly so that the color name is inside the gem or something
Could even be to add to the crystals that show the color lines to them, like red having one stripe, blue two, etc?

That seems a good one. I know sometimes have a hard time with the difference between yellow and orange, but not as bad as colorblind.

That's the best idea I've heard in this entire thread. If they change the colored crystal graphic on top of the rune wheel to have different patterns, they could then change the graphic on the rune pictures to match, no coding involved. It would make it easier for everyone in general to figure out which is which, so this wouldn't just be an accessibility update.

While I can understand that some people are against a change like this, there are obviously people who support it. Some of the comments I've read have 'blindly' (pun intended) ignored the fact that there are people who have the same problem and/or agree with me.

I have already apologized for my rude tone in the first post, but I'll be so humble as to say it again: I apologize for my rudeness. I apologize for the sarcastic use of color to make my point.

My tone doesn't have any bearing on the validity of my argument/request, though.
Not only that, none of the arguments I've seen are very convincing in opposition to it.

I just want this changed, and there seems to be no valid reason why it shouldn't happen, despite some people's argument that it will start us down the 'slippery slope'. Whatever, people. I'm asking for a tiny change that has already been halfway implemented; I only ask for completion of a task already begun.

It isn't something that will change game play for anyone but me and those of us to whom the world's colors are an enigma. It shouldn't be something that is expensive or takes a dev more than ten minutes to fix in each quest...

The suggestion that I quit soloing things... What would YOU say to that idea? Right. I group a lot, but I solo a lot when I'm running favor. I'm sure a lot of people do. I've run up against this problem often enough while soloing that it's finally snapped my patience, and I exploded.

Regarding the suggestion that I or any other colorlbind person use a program to change the colors on our monitor... *sigh*... what would you suggest we change them too? Chartreuse? Do you honestly think we would be able to see that any better than what is there already? Please just accept the concept that our eyes simply do not work the same way yours do, but that it's an easy fix to accommodate us.

Maybe that's why I'm so frustrated... It's such a simple thing for Turbine to change; why not?

I'm not going to stop playing DDO. Even if this never gets fixed. I'll just deal with it, as I have done since the ORIGINAL BETA of DDO. I remember when my web clicky from WW that used to give me 3 webs/rest was nerfed to only 1 web/rest. I remember when the ledge in Stormcleave was nerfed because it was 'too easy to beat the giant because of it'. I remember when we used to shoot arrows out of our butts when we didn't have a target... (well, I never did say good job on fixing that one, actually ). I remember when Drow didn't exist in the game, and when Favor was only a twinkle in a dev's eye at the idea we would spend so much more time grinding. I remember the Tent in the middle of the Marketplace. I have that dumb Necklace that only gives me +1 Natural Bonus to AC and never grows in strength as my character progresses in levels that I get in my inventory every single time I make a new character because I paid for the game before it was released. I AM going to complain: I have earned the right. I have been a loyal player this whole time, and that should count for something. Turbine has collected a lot of my money over the years, and I should get some freakin Customer Service for all the money I have shelled out. I am not, nor have I ever been, a Free to Play Player. I am a paying customer. You will inevitably say, "You got a lot of enjoyment out of the game, what are you complaining about?" It could be just a tiny bit better, with no loss to anyone. Don't try to tell me that this would be expensive to fix: I've more than paid for this one fix over the years, and I'm not alone in my request.

The CS HAS improved since EU released. My hat is off to good changes since then; but IMHO it has been relatively horrible since the inception of the game. Yes; I realize you have your OPINION of this. I do too. I'm not asking you to change your opinion, just to have the labels stuck on my crayons. What's your problem, dude?

Actually, I have to stop at every single flashing light: they all look the same. I know what color the ones in line are by their position on the bar. Grow some sensitivity.

That is an excellent idea. It would be much cooler than seeing "Green Panel" plastered all over the place, too... And it would allow the "It will change the universe as we know it" people to have their cake, and give us a piece too.

    Excellent, excellent suggestion.

That's a bit of an apples to oranges comparison, though. Releasing (and maintaining) a Mac client is a much larger job.

A possible solution, yes. But I don't think the OP was asking for anything as extreme as a palette switch in this case, but more along the lines of mouseover text.

I think you see it as a waste of resources that could be spent on something with wider appeal, or on things such as bug fixing, at least judging by your second paragraph here. I'm of the opinion that the devs could decide that for themselves. I have no idea how labor is divided up. If the devs decided they could spare the resources to implement such a change, I'd be all for it. I do tend to agree with you that the matter may not be a top priority sort of thing, but I don't think it hurts to make reasonable accommodations for people.

I was reading this thread and was thinking that an individual pattern or shape to the color blocks would help out.

As an example: vertical line, horizontal line, plus shape, triangle, square, and circle backgrounds under or of the color block could cover the issue.

Changing the graphic shouldn't be too hard, unless they have one graphic, and then apply the color to it in game via lighting effects. Then it could become a problem...

Because they only make one set of faceplates for the ATMs, whether they are intended to be installed as walk-up (which a blind person could easily get to) or drive-through. Why did you ask such a silly question?

Nevermind. This is a stupid debate.

While the OP could have been a little less psyco bringing it up, it doesn't make his point any less valid. While I dont want Dev's wasting time on something as minor as this, they should implement a workaround in future content, and retrofit old colorpuzzles as they make epic upgrades.

Until then, get someone to help you and realize that no matter how angry and loud you get, spitting into the wind doesn't do you any good.

I just cannot begin to relate to you how racist your comment sounds, not to mention how insulting it is. You really don't know there are people who are different from you in the world, do you Johny?

This is another reason I want them changed: because of people like this who start with the whole, "So what color is this?" line of questions. It's humiliating to be ridiculed for this... Pick on the guy who can't see mauve. It's ridiculous, but somehow there are always people like you who jump on it. Do you feel better about yourself, now that you've ridiculed me for something I have no control over?

My little slice of the Disabilities Bashing Pie is minor compared to some of the hate that it generates from the Ignorant, but it still sux. Thank you for showing me a tiny bit more of what those with more openly apparent disabilities go thru each and every day. I feel sorry for anyone who has to live with someone like you. Do you throw blind people down stairs, too? Wow; I didn't really believe in people like you either... until now.

Dev's: please change this so I don't have to listen to insults from people like this anymore. Yet another reason it should be changed.

Hmm... The lights are in the position on every stop light in America. Red is on top yellow in the Middle and Green on the bottom, or whatever.. So I am sure that his son doesnt have to tell him what color the light is. Being color Blind doesn't make you stupid.
