Question How would you feel about DDO being offered on X-Box 360 ?

I for one am for it because I have seen the influx of new players from free to play accounts and think its cool. I am sure others have had a bad experience but I would like to see what people think about X-Box people coming on board. Lets try to keep it constructive please thank you

As long as they dont have to dumb the game down any further I say go for it.

I'm pretty sure that if they ever put DDO on the 360, it'd have to be separate servers - just based on my experiences with 360 games that also exist on the PC. This is because Microsoft likes to have very tight control over the content that goes over X-Box Live - and makes updates problematic for non-MS controlled game makers.

Take, for example, Team Fortress 2. When it first launched via Orange Box, both the PC and 360 versions were pretty much the same. My wife, knowing what a long time Half-Life fan I am, got Orange Box for me on the 360. TF2 was awesome, and I played the hell out of it over XBL. Then, I heard that Valve was putting out patches - more maps - different weapons for each class - more play modes - and a lot more of everything. I waited for the 360 to get these upgrades... and nothing. After a while of this nothing, I bought TF 2 for my PC when it went on sale over Steam, and haven't looked back. I don't think that the 360's TF2 has had much more than the bare-bones tweaking - while the game on the PC has triple the content that the 360 does.

If DDO was on the X-Box, we'd probably be just about getting the Titan mod any day now.

While I think it'd be cool to see the game on the X-Box, I don't think I'd want to play it on the X-Box. Nor do I think XBL players would ever mingle with our current servers.

What Memnir said. Also, Microsoft really hates to have free updates for 360 games. Would you like to pay per update?

Thumbs down Just Say No to Console Gaming

    No.
Leave the console-kiddies to their Halo twitch-fests, please.
Not that the DDO playerbase is all sweetness & light, mind you...but adding the Xboxers to the mix doesn't sound like an improvement to me.

Not sure how I'ld map the 6+ hotbars I normally use to an xbox controller ..

Nor would I want to see the game "adjusted" to need fewer hotbar slots to play effectively ..

I dont think its really workable without some changes to the game that will make the game less then it is, so no.

    NO!

Please no. I don't play console games online for 2 reasons.

    1. Stupid controls - I hate trying to cram the commands into limited buttons placed in crappy areas on the controls.
    2. Console Crowd for online games. Yelling, "F** down! Medic!", with every frag becomes really annoying for those listening to you.

I can't see putting all of my keyboard shortcuts on to an xbox controller. Most people run with at least 4 hotbars, that's 40 clickies. The gameplay would have to be seriously dumbed down.

Id love it because it would allow me to play with a handful of friends who refuse to buy a gaming computer yet have a 360.

As far as cross platform goes, Final Fantasy 11 worked just fine with cross platform updates. It also allows console and PC players to play on the same servers and it works out pretty good. Now the grind on the other hand...

As far as controls go, you can hook a keyboard up to the 360. You can also attach a qwerty keyboard to your controller.

The issue they are talking about for servers is an issue with Microsoft and how they handle products for XBox.

FFXI was also a bit slower paced and you had time to browse menus for commands, unlike DDO.

Well, if they want to release a DDO version for the consoles that would be one thing, kind of like how they released a version of Baulders gate for the PS2 back years ago.... not really the same thing as the original but "in the same spirit" I would be all for something to maybe bring in some more players by introducing the 360 crowd to the concepts of D+D, that may just be the old Pen and Paper DM in me wanting to teach new players

You think development is slow now, imagine what it would be with a split dev team by bringing in a new game and system.

    Memnir pretty much nailed it.

While I'd not be against it, spam would become so much worse. Let alone the dev time required to code in the xbox stuff (if they have to?) which then would lead to turbine getting a ton of complaints about xbox abuse and what not being sent and complained at Turbine when really that is an MS issue.

I use an X-box controller now with LMB and RMB and directional mouse functionality plus easy access to 4 hot bars + regular movement, block, jump, map and next monster/party member/item.

I use 9 bars when i play 5 of which have less used items/potions which i have to mouse to with the right analogue stick and click on to use but the top 4 bars are easily pressed with 10 action buttons.

However I find that i still need the actual mouse now and then for accuracy/speed and the keyboard for certain inventory management things. But I'm 99% controller.

Works better then a keyboard for me but i have spud fingers which spell 'jujhn' when i want to press 'j'

So it can be done but it took major planning getting it right though and can still fool me if i select the wrong hotbar of the four mapped. Saying that I can't really see it working on a console as the mindse is different to PC gaming. I would still want full access to a keyboard and mouse but the console crew would want easy fun from the couch and want it now.

I wish they would support the 360 controller. I can sorta make it work, but full support really requires a "power selection wheel". Not holding my breath...

i use 10 fully used hotbars on all of my characters, can't imagine playing without a keyboard. now if i plugged into a keyboard into my 360 and used the controller for normal combat i could see it working potentially... so long as the game isnt dumbed down AT ALL!

Have you heard of Baldur's Gate Shadow Alliance for PS2?

I don't think I need to say more, but, I'm guessing it'd be a combination of that and Morrowind (so it would have awesomely terrible lag and dumbed down everything).
