    Default Rogue multi class feedback

my rogue just hit enough exp for level 6 and I was thinking about multi classing her with maybe a Fighter or Ranger because I enjoy combat and want to make her a little tougher. Any recommendations? Should I even bother?

Multiclassing should be handled carefully. I would recommend avoiding it unless you have a specific plan in mind (for example--using two ranger levels to pick up free two weapon fighting feats and wand use; using fighter levels to add hps and some feats; etc.--but do you need the extra feats?). If you plan on taking the assassin line--you should consider taking at least 18 levels of rogue to get the full benefit. Study the forums for ideas on how multiclassing can help a rogue. But I wouldn't jump right in without some serious research. If in doubt, err on the side of staying pure rogue.

/agree preplan or pure is safest

What do you want, and what do you have are two significant questions.

Ranger gives TWF and Bow bonuses. To cast spells, you need 4th level ranger and WIS 10 + spell level (example 11 WIS allows 1st level spells) Would assume you could tome this, not sure about enhancements and gear to qualify. Typical Rog/Rgr spec is 18/2 for TWF or 14/6 for tempest (+2 AC and 10% TWF speed boost), some go 13/6 with 1 monk for AC/saves boost. Also doesnt hurt your skill points too bad. Final boost for Ranger is use of divine wands such as cure light, and moderate wounds. Not sure if there is a cap on how good of wands you can use as a ranger splash compared to full ranger.

Fighter gives better base attack and free feats. Really bad skill points per level. If your Int is high enough, may not be issue.

Both give all martial weapons, heavy shield and heavier armor, but as a rogue, you dont likely need medium let alone heavy armor, which give negative modifiers on most/all rogue skills.

Also, always compare what you loss taking those levels as something else compared to what you gain. Rogue is one of the better classes to multi-class with.

Again, if you plan to multi-class, best to have a plan prior to leveling up, and always take first level as rogue for rogue multi-class.

At what level would it be best to take 2 lvls of ranger? I'm working on a Rog/Ran/Fighter but the planner is confusing or I am doing something wrong. Just wondering.

If you are taking two levels or ranger, I would probably take them at 2nd and either 3rd or 4th levels, so you can get TWF as soon as possible. It also gives you benefit of wand usage at low levels, since your UMD won't be high enough to be reliable yet. You can wait a little longer, but I would definitely take it early enough that it doesn't interfere with using a normal feat for ITWF.
