    Default Reincarnate to monk

    Hello everyone,

I hope I don't get blasted for this so I am looking for constructive criticism. My main is a Barb and I eventually want to keep him that way but with the new past life feats I want to try a few classes that I would not have built before. So I am going to use the opportunity to swap and make a monk to level 20.

So my goal is to get ideas for builds that do not use +2 or greater tomes. The reason is simple, I am going to reincarnate again when I reach 20. Maybe if I like monk enough I will make a new one. Other info: of course I have 34 points, past life as a barb (berserk on a monk should be fun), and I like playing WF. I am open to swapping to halfling though. So far I found these stats pretty consistent with a decent monk build:
    str 12
    dex 16
    con 16
    int 8
    wis 16
    chr 8
so +1 tome on str and dex I think for pre-req with level stats in wis.

Is this good or could I do better?

    Thanks

Looks good to me. You have 5 stat distributions. If you get your STR up to 13, you get power attack. this could be done with a tome or with a lvl 5 stat buy.

And off in the distance, staying to the shadows where none can recognize them, sit the parents of the obviously confused warrior soon to be peddler. The grieving mother lays her head on the shoulder of a retired, but still impressively built, warrior...whose biceps retain the appearance of well used hams...and weeps silently The couple shuffles off to their simple retirement cottage in the glade by the stream, enters, and quietly closes the door.

"Why" she asks her husband..."why would be forsake his heritige for such as this, this 'peddler of hand-jive' he seeks to become.

The greying warrior sighs and askes in return, "Why do the animals of the forest stray onto the cart path, only to be run down by the merchants carts...because they're really quite daft"

    She weeps...

He slowly approaches the mantle. Trophies and awards cover the expanse, many from their once-great warrior son. He reaches for the picture of their son, resplendent in his warriors regalia, and slowly turns it around to face the wall.

"I suppose we'll have to post one of him in his monkey suit now" says the grizzled veteran "I just hope to Krom that his grandparents never find out".

Her wails can be heard for miles..."ohhh...what a world, what a world"

WF make great monks as long as they are light path. 'Fists of life' and the finisher 'Healing Ki' both heal a WF since it is not divine magic. No matter what path you take, you get the ability to heal half your hitpoints out of battle for 10 ki every 2 minutes at level 7. This allows a WF to enjoy their benefits without suffering as much from their drawbacks so they can even take Improved Fortification. Just be sure to always bring some repair pots with you for those times where your self healing just is not enough (and there are no arcane casters around).

A Halfling makes a great monk mostly because of their sneak attack damage bonuses. With abilities like Unbalancing Strike at level 6 and Quivering Fist at 15 (Both which make the opponent open to sneak attacks), you are missing out on a lot of potential DPS. On the other hand, if you are busy using those two moves, you are not likely healing much with 'Healing ki' which is a really nice asset to any party (Between 1d4 and 11d4 free healing to the entire party every 28 ki is really nice).

In the end, it comes down to if you want more survivability/healing or more DPS. Honestly, I was hard pressed when I had to chose between a WF or Halfling monk. I would say go WF if that is what you really like. They are by far not gimp monks.

EDIT: Dang it, what a waste of time on this post. I did not realize how old it is until now.
