I've been having a lot of fun, ground out level 8 over my 4 day weekend, and began following suit. Not sure I have the exact build I saw when I initially posted this, but max CHA and CON, couple points in INT, maxxing UMD, and following a fairly generalist build - I've been having alot of fun with it.

I'm curious how I can increase my survivability though... One thing I've noticed is I need to keep my balance a little higher, but as for defenses, what do you guys do? How can I better pull off the "stand in the firewall with defensive stance on and survive" routine? I wand buff myself beforehand, but any other tips?
Being tripped/commanded is something that happens, and not much you can really do about it sometimes.

    Here's a few tips:
    1. Drag as much aggro as you can before firewalling. This allows you to increase your mobs killed per spellpoint ratio
    2. Keep max and empower on at all times. You should have enough spellpoints for this, especially if you follow #1 above
    3. If you are finding that one casting of firewall is not killing mobs, turn on extend. 10 spellpoints is cheaper than 75 (or whatever a max/empower fw costs these days)
    4. Cast displacement with regularity
    5. Turn on quicken right after you cast your firewall. Short of running out of mana or being tripped/commanded you can survive anything with quickened repairs (especially when you ge reconstruct)
    6. Don't be afraid to kite. Once you pick up a fog or dancing ball it can be situationally better sometimes to cast a fog/disco, then a firewall, then kite mobs back and forth
You may know me as: Gannot, Gonnet, Gunnet, Ginnet, Gaxxat, Gennot, Gannut, Gxnnxt, Horseface, Izzayhay, Pailmaster, Artifactual, Gynnet and/or Barred. What? I like alts.

You can do this with web (heightened) to good effect as well. I wouldn't recommend fogs at the moment as
the movement penalty has been nerfed to the point where it is almost unnoticeable.

This has been great advice thanks.

Lately, I've been hitting myself with blur, falselife, jump, haste and displacement, I aggro (or sometimes use suggestion to get a toy-tank), and drop my firewall while I jump through and keep them running in circles. Working great.

    +1 rep

EDIT: I recently found a greater potency greatsword... at least I have something to smash crates with now.
