    Default .net work-around?

    Hey all,

My supervisor is cool with me playing stuff when we have downtime, but the network admins here will probably not follow suit. =) I can play WoW on my work PC (using some sneaky stuff), but not DDO. Why?... the need for .NET Framework 1.1.4322.

    I can't install it.
    I can't drag/drop it in place(Folder secured)
    I can't connect without it.

Do you really need it, or can a different version be used?

Also, does anyone know if the .NET will work if just dropped to a different location? Then if so, can you redirect DDO to look for it there, instead of window/blah/blah.....?

I did this with WoW when wanting to setup my own private server, but have found no info for doing such things with DDO.

I know this might be a stretch, but thanks for looking, and any help will be greatly appreciated.

.NET is a system library - to the best of my knowledge, the only way to get it is to have it installed with admin privileges. Also, something that uses an outdated version of .NET - such as DDO, which uses 1.1 SP1 - can't just grab a newer version of .NET and run. The code is dependent on the specific version of .NET it was built against.

I found something clever: It takes a program that needs .NET, and makes it into an exe that has .NET built into itself. http://www.xenocode.com/Products/Postbuild-for-NET/

There's a 30-day trial version. What I don't know is whether this works on executables, or whether it needs the source code to do its magic. If the latter, you're out of luck. If the former, you may be able to create your very own "DDO w/ .NET" exe at home, and transfer it over. And then somehow convince the patcher to leave it alone. Oh. Yeah. About that. It'll show up as corrupted.

Never mind that idea, then. Sorry, I think you are out of luck.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I don't have this working, but am happy to have a new game to play. It is called "Try to play DDO at work". I had to abandon the idea, but the dream is alive again! =)

I honestly didn't think anyone was going to come up with anything.

    One more thank you.
