Nein. DDO is DX10. There are no DX10.1-only games on the market, period. That'd be commercial suicide. Until very, very recently, only ATI offered DX10.1-capable cards.

Disagree. There's no guarantee he won't have the same issue then. We'll need to see how DDO behaves with DX10 once it supports DX11. If it still has the same behavior with regards to detection, then moving to a new card may very well not fix the issue.

I say wait until DDO supports DX11, or a game you love does, before even thinking about buying a DX11 card.

As for NVidia and DX11 - well, their G300 part is late, 20% under clock, and will be expensive. NVidia in their official press releases mention gaming in a footnote. Literally, in a footnote. See here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/io_1258360868914.html - at the very bottom, the editor's note. Hugely inspiring.

I don't see NVidia competing well with their G300 part. Which is a real shame - we need competition. Larrebee is the new great hope for that, maybe.

Are out now. The 5700 series. All of these cards have production delays. No reason to rush. The 5850, which is likely your price/performance sweet spot, is supposed to MSRP at $250, and currently sells for $310 due to shortages. Q1 2010 for good availability, to be sure.

Yeah, "wallet" being the operative word. That's the 5970, performance-wise higher than a CF5850 and lower than a CF5870, with room for overclock. Needs a massive power supply if overclocked. ATI consider it the card for the "ultra-enthusiast" and expect that regardless of the price they'll sell these at, they won't have enough of them to go around.

If you like to geek out about the GPU industry, one of the best sources out there is SemiAccurate. http://www.semiaccurate.com/

And AnandTech does really good consumer reviews.
