Default Game randomly minimizes to desktop

This just started happening to me the other day.

The game doesn't crash, it just gets minimized. I don't have to log in again, I just have to hit the ddo button in my taskbar to get back to playing. It only seems to happen while in a dungeon. It hasn't happened to me while standing around in a public instance.

Its awfully annoying, especially when soloing and in the middle of a fight.

I am not sure what is causing this. I have no programs running in the background. And its not my anti-virus kicking in.

    Any ideas?

Been happening to me on occasion as well. More often on the laptop second account when I am dual boxing. Just like you, click on the tab on the taskbar and right back into the game. Running XP SP3.

    Default Same Here

Same thing is happening to me, only started after the update...
Wonder if there is a conflict or something

Update--- Can now confirm that this is happening in both instances and public areas.

Yep, happened to me a few times in public areas as well. I was hoping today's maintenance would help, but its still happeing.

Are we the only 3 with this issue?

I'm gonna post this in general discussion to maybe get some more looks and see if its more widespread.

    Default Nope

Happening to me too. Just started happening last night. I've changed nothing on my end. Must be something with the update or maintenance they did.

Default I think I've fixed this.

I uninstalled AVG antivirus and installed Sunbelt VIPRE 30 day trial. I had been freezing and minimizing every 20-30 min, but tonight I was able to play for 2 hours straight without a problem. Will see if my luck holds out tomorrow night.

Yep, AVG was the culprit for me. I completely uninstalled it and have had no problems since. Its a shame because I really liked AVG Must have been something they did in there recent upgrade as I have been using AVG for quite some time with no problems. I'm giving Avira a go since I am too cheap to guy buy an antivirus. We'll see how it works out.

Thanks Ingo and everyone, you've been a big help.

Just recently started having this problem as well, so I wasn't sure what had changed. But if it is a problem with AVG then I'm still confused because there are 2 computers in the house, both run AVG, and only the one I use has this minimizing issue.

    Both use XP.

Mine minimizes when my AVG update kicks in. Doesn't happen often but once in a while. Haven't messed with the settings to see if it can be fixed, but I'm guessing that disabling auto-update would do the trick.

If another program is set to have "focus" then the game will be minimized. This could be from a virus scanner, windows updates, firewall notice, email or almost anything else.

Suggestion - disable everything while playing if it's happening to you except for essentials such as your firewall. Note that while my ddo is minimized, my voice still works, so if you're in a party you could tell others that you're having a "moment"

This just started happening to me recently as well. Thanks for the tip on AVG. I found this over at their support forums:

    http://forums.avg.com/ww-en/avg-free...=show&id=34721

Seems like it affects other games and fullscreen apps as well. A few people have reported success with uninstalling AVG and doing a fresh install of AVG 9.0. Sounds like it may be related to the upgrade from 8.5 to 9.0

It was I had this happening over the weekend the week before last after updating to AVG 9.0. Even after the install I think that AVG was attempting to prompt for the upgrade but after detecting that the upgrade was performed it was closing the prompt window before the full screen app (DDO and some other games I was running) could minimize.

I want to say I rebooted after the install but I may have just hidden the prompt to reboot. Regardless I ended up rebooting later on *after* first running the "Update" option of AVG once more (the standard update not the 9.0 install that I'd done before) and then after that reboot it stopped knocking my full screen apps to minimized.

A common cause of this can be especially programs that have pop up warning messages (such as the ever so common pop up to update your software, especially programs listed next to the time in the system tray). Anti-virus, manufacture maintenance and driver updaters, and windows update are some common culprits. An easy short term fix is to update all those programs when they ask. Also see if they have the ability to turn off the warning messages. You could also just uninstall them but that is not a viable option for many people.

If you want to see if another program is causing the problem, try disabling your startup programs (Just do a google search for "disable startup programs" to find out how). Be careful when doing this though, you will likely disable programs you may WANT to run as well (temporarily until you re-enable them). If this fixes the problem, re-enable half the programs. If the problem comes back, you know one of those first half of the programs is causing the problem. Just keep using the process of elimination until you find out what task is causing the problem. Once you know, do a google search of the task name to find out what program is associated with it (it may be obvious from the name though).

    Update:

Last night I uninstalled AVG, rebooted, and did a clean install of AVG 9.0. Fired up the game, and within a few minutes had it minimize itself, booo.

Then I clicked on the AVG tray icon and hit Update Now. Of course it reported that it was up-to-date. Resumed playing for a couple hours and it appears to be fixed! So maybe all it takes is manually telling it to update?

    Edit:
Just noticed that Mirthgar also seemed to solve the problem by doing a manual update of AVG!

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, it may not be safe to run AVG's scanner. See my post in the AVG 9.0 thread.
