Default Connection drops off after a couple minutes

As the title says, I lose connection after a couple (literally) minutes. My received Bps drops down to 0, and then it disconnects me completely a minute later. I've monitored my internet connection during this time, and it usually stays connected fine the entire time and does not show a problem. Sometimes it will drop down to local connection only, but not always. Also windows (Vista) does not find any problems with my internet connection (except for when it does drop, in which case it tells me that it's a problem that windows can't solve and that it's a problem with my DNS, but I don't know if that can even be trusted). I don't know if it is something wrong with my computer or with my ISP. It also happens when I try to play City of Heroes, but I'm more concerned with it happening here. Prior to two days ago, I had not played for around two weeks. During this time, I have not done anything to alter my internet settings (until now when I've been resetting like mad trying to get it to work properly). I never had any connectivity problems when trying to play before this. It's really starting to irk me. If anyone knows of something I can try, I'd appreciate the help.

AS you stated that it happens with CoH...

Get a new provider. Your traffic is getting throttled as if it were a torrent stream.

Unfortunately not an option as I live in dorms and can only have Comcast. It worked fine for a year and a half, why would it decide to screw me over now? No ideas for how to get it to work without switching ISPs?

As I have posted in another thread, I have only been doing this a month and a half with zero problems what so ever but as of Saturday evening I get the the screen past the Character choice screen and 3 to 5 mins later I get a game error about losing connection.

It did the same thing to my sons laptop here on my network but when he went to visit my mom it worked fine on her network. Both have the same exact setup as well, same provider (Cox), same router and same modem.

While you are not satellite (first link) it may have info you need to contact your provider to stop screwing with your service.

As you are in dorms, your own college may be doing the throttling. I do not know how your personal setup is.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the input. I'll try to figure out how to contact Comcast then. I don't even know how this all work in the dorms, I have a modem that came with the dorm, but I don't have any sort of log-in information or account with Comcast at all.
