I decided to PuG on my new Cleric lowbie, running waterworks on elite.

I should have foreseen the bad run when the wizard started out throwing fireballs at everything in the first 2 minutes.

I asked him if he had hypno or web loaded, because it would help out WAY more, and he started going on a rant about how people need to stop telling him how to play his wizard, and that he's been playing since beta and knows what he is doing, etc. etc.

Needless to say, the wizard drew agro, he's running around in circles, jumping, as I'm trying to heal him, the tanks are running around trying to kill things. I'm getting healing agro and start getting attacked, everyone is getting attacked at this point, by different mobs, so I'm trying to heal everyone while keeping myself up. The ranger is in the back shooting arrows at stuff, and we party wipe... in waterworks...

I ended up just closing the game.

I know at least 75% of it was because everyone was new, but come on, if someone gives advice about a particular tactic in a quest, at least try it out instead of being stuck up about it.

If a wizard is that rude to advice, then the moment he goes out of sight or around a corner from me he gets no heals.

Sounds like you got into a group with the guy who thinks he can solo everything but in reality kills the party with his play.

Unfortunately it is happening a lot out there.

I would just let it go and put that person/persons on my do not play with list.

Also a lot of new players are confusing the recent F2P beta with the one 4 years ago. I've had several players tell me they have been here since beta and even one guild recruiter advertising such for his guild only to find out they were talking about the recent beta and have only been here 2 months

Ced, one big word of advice on pugging. I NEVER start the day with a group on the Elite Setting. Need to see them in action first, and elite is far less forgiving of stupid than normal or even hard would be.

Tons of new players, lets go thru it on normal, let everyone see the quest and get a feel for what is in it. A mix, go hard to see how well they play together and synergize if at all. (Like last night on a guild run in the Inspired quests, I was Energy Draining mobs right before the other Arcane would one shot them. Was working smoothly with neither one of us having to recast very often. Synergy.)

The only advice I have.......A bad DEAD party member can cause no harm.....

As soon as he drew agrro and you were throwing heals everywhere because of the caster.....opppps, caster is dead, melee's get em.

Other than that, DONT PUG!!!!!!!!!!

I think people should be forced to identify which Beta they were here from. DDO Beta years ago or DDO: EU beta from a couple of months ago.

Sounds like that Wizard didn't realize the same tactics used on Normal and Hard don't necessary apply to Elite.

Simple solution I have used a few times. Said wizzy dies, gets put in my pack and taken to a rez shrine when the rest of the group finishes the part we're on. he can either learn and then continue or rez out and drop group. Either way problem solved.

This type of shanannigans can be solved by learning the command spell.

There will be no Wizzy chasing if they're sitting on thier wallet!

Just in case you don't know this amazing secret:

The easiest fix to this is to take care of crowd control yourself. Just buy 2-3 soundburst wands off the vendor by the entrance to the subterraine. Spam soundbursts off the wand (even on elite) until everything is dead. You can complete the entire waterworks line on elite this way with hardly having to heal at all. Just fyi.

Oh and that wizard stinks. I don't care what beta he's been playing since (and if he played in the real beta, and took a 3 year break that doesn't count at all). Either you know how to play or you don't. Saying you've played alot and still stink is even worse. In my opinion, this is the group leaders fault in not standing up for what the group needed. Met plenty of supposedly experienced players that just have egos and equipment, but barely passable skills. One nice thing about EPIC, it really separates the runts from the good ones.

In the short time I've been playing this game, I've learned that sometimes PUG's aren't the best way to go. I myself dont have much of a choice since I'm not really in a guild...I'm looking for one now.

But some advice that was given to me has worked...so I'll pass it on to you as well (but I'm sure you already know this! )

- Don't heal the idiot that is making your group dead
- Take command of the group and give each person specific orders
- Start groups yourself, and explain you expectations of each player


I REALLY think there should be a way to boot someone from the group during an quest...that person should just reload back to the NPC and be out. But since not, it causes Clerics (like myself) to spend precious resources and not be as helpful as we could.
