Default Wizard 18/Rogue 2 Human or WF?

So, I want to make a new wizard once the new server opens up. I decided I'm going to make a wizard rogue hybrid so that I can solo quickly and efficiently up to the high levels.

My question is....should I make a Warforged, or a Human? I have access to 32 points.

Warforged can self heal and has some great immunities.

Human has some extra skill points, an extra feat, and human versatility is gonna be much better than the rogue skill boost I. Since I'll be able to max out my UMD, I'll be able to use wands for healing.

So.....which does everyone think I should do?

warforged. healing yourself has no parallel. as a wiz you get a tonne more feats than you need. wf is the way to go.

Halfling........you will be able to afford the healing marks (both feat and enhancement wise) and empowered max potency you will be able to heal yourself and party for about 3500 pts per shrine. The halfling reflex save line and sneak attack to hit and damage bonus help alot between castings.

Wf is also very good, but for me the halflings have proven to be far more flexible allowing soft dps and party healing when it strikes your fancy.

Yeah, WF or Halfers are both good. WF are quite good for the solo wizard. The immunities and self-super heal are fantastic and hard to beat.

The Halfling I'd say is more party-friendly as you can heal anyone else in the party (whereas the WF can only heal fellow robots), and you can also get the Companion line which is a nice boost for any melee.

For a challenge, go with any other race.
For some super extra challenge points, make an Elf or Drow with 6 Con.

To be redundant: WF for the self healing.

Why the 2 levels of Rogue, though?

Oh man. That "build" is surprisingly prevalant. Go go 150 hp at level 20!

Well, since I will be soloing mostly. I want to be able to access all of the content, disable traps, etc. Also, Evasion is nice.

Edit: Also, with all the skill points, you don't make a bad rogue. Keep your rogue skills maxed.

The rogue levels are very nice. In fact this build joins the 18/2 favored soul/monk and 18/1/1 ranger/monk/rogue as the three builds the game should ban due to total domination factor.

To me these three builds are simply too dominating in a party driven game.....roll one and you have a huge advantage for survivability and ownage. When you die playing one of them, you know either you just got very unlucky like rolling three ones in a row or did something very dumb.

    Arrow

    Quick response: WF

Long Term Best choice IMO: Drow.

Why? Starting INT of 20, 40 INT at Cap will be easy. Start Rogue 1, Then Wizard 1 - 12+ then Rogue 2. (Sure you won`t have Evasion till L13 or so, but you`ll maximize your cross class Skill Pt. expenditures)

UMD, Balance, Search are prime, and if you make a set of AirGuard (Spell Points and +6 CHA Skill GS Goggles, then UMD will hit 40+ for Heal Scrolls. (Yes a WF can use Quicken and his SP`s to Repair himself, but you can use BlueDragon Scale Leather for some Armor Class, combine it with a TW-Mith Shield and have Zero ASF.)

Good choice btw. Evasion Wizards Rock!

    Warforged. Then build another one

The inability to heal fleshies is a blessing, not a curse.

You can't seriously be referring to the WF, so you must be talking about the halfling.

WF was my 100% choice before I knew you were going to be mostly soloing.

There is no question its the choice for mostly solo play. The buffs you cannot cast on yourself, you don't need, freedom etc.

Go wf. you won't be sorry.

Nah, it was in reference to my sarcasm about the "6 con" builds. I like to call them the "Raistlin" builds.
    All INT. No Con.

Works just fine in PnP D&D, but in DDO? Well, my hat off to anyone who can pull it off

Eh. If you go WF, there is very little need for UMD. Balance is definitely important, though if the OP wants to go trapmonkeying, he'll have few enough skill points to spare. On my Wiz 8/Rog 2 build (so far), I've found that half ranks into Hid, Move Silently, Search and Disable (1 point per level rather than 2), along with good items and maybe a buff or two (Heroism), have been enough to deal with even hard or elite content around my level. Further down the road, I suspect that I may find myself unable to get some traps, but the very high Int on a wizard should balance out the lower ranks.

AC on a wizard is fairly pointless after the earliest levels, as we just have too few methods of gaining AC, and Dex is a dump stat more or less. Blur, Displacement, Haste, Jump, Stoneskin, Tumble, Resist/Protection from Energy...these are our AC, our Reflex saves (though I really do like Insightful Reflexes), and to some degree, our HP.

A challenge, or a death sentence?

I kinda resent a lot of the casters I group with who I heal with a 90-point Cure Serious from my ranger and see their HP jump by over half. It's not that hard getting a wizard's HP into the 300-pt. range, even on a drow without Toughness or a Shroud HP item. I really don't think there is any excuse for having under 200 HP at level 16+.
