Ok Did an EPIC Wiz King las Night. Tough as they come I must say. As The Cleric of the group I used approximately 15 Mana Pots and 3 Eladrin Shrines. I happened to be with a Good Group of Joes it was just a bit Pricey to be the CLeric trying to Farm EPIC tokens, etc. Any suggestions on this quest or how to make it less expensive next time?

all high lvl 'hard' quests are expensive until you get players who learn them. kudos for giving it a go. i'm still scared to take either of my clerics out there.

My first run was about that expensive. And we wiped on Raiyum too.

My second: ~100 Heal scrolls only, simply due to having a more solid group.

For Epic quests, you really need one (or both) of extreme melee DPS or a second healer (preferably one that can melee as well).

Yes The group I was in was "assembled" a 2nd Healer will certainly share the expenses.

I gotta agree here. Dont make an epic group with the same melees that take 3-4 rounds beating down harry in pt 4. Your just asking for trouble.

i've pretty much been running nothing but epic since it was released. fwiw, here's my tips and suggestions.

-dont pug

-bring a bard. they can be a backup healer, sing songs for better + to hit and damage, fascinate, and help melee

-only bring people who know what theyre doing. it is "epic" after all. yes you can make it with pileons, but it just becomes more expensive

-fight as little face to face as possible. use your terrain when its available, and find some when its not.

-web is your friend. in blood i was also using sleet storm. due to the fact that we didnt stop running i cant tell you if it worked, but it seemed to help. just dont forget to fom first.

-you can clear parts of wiz king and chains before you get locked in - do so, max buffs, go out and shrine, then start. its like getting a free shrine.

-for wiz king - get the tokens out of the side quests so you have 2 less battles

-for wiz king - do all 3 sides. no point in only killing the king and missing out on all the loot in the bottom

-enervate, enervate, enervate. bring scrolls for all the mobs with no sr, bring the spell for those that do have sr. the sr is not terribly high. iirc most have somewhere in the 30s.

-flesh to stone and ottos irresistable dance

-conservation of resources. sorcs stop trying to dps kill everything, clerics stop trying to cometfall everything, et cetera. firewall/bb mass groups of enemies, not every single one enemy.

-make sure you save some power surges, sps, rages, smites, et cetera for the boss and mini boss fights. they are much tougher than the trash.

-go back to basics - kill casters first, use your terrain, use your crowd control, melee trip and sunder every chance you get (with as many swings as you get you'll be seeing them roll plenty of ones), learn the dr bypasses and use them, know what buffs you need and ask for them, et cetera.

play smart and you'll get lots of vendor trash, a few seals, some tokens, and a couple scrolls and may even have a little fun with the new challenge.

We did a run of this Saturday night that was relatively painless, but long. A few mana pots used, but not many and we completed. Chains seems to be faster, but more costly. You can not just throw together groups for epic though. You need the right mix and at least decent players otherwise it is just too much for resources. As for gimp melee yeah that is a no go here. Also make sure people are using the right combinations of weapons. If you don't hear any chatter about what sets people are using before you start up epic then it might be painful.

For instance... You can't blade the archers. They are stationary.

Do you know what their to_hit is, or how many hpts, or how much per hit they deal you? What about their challenge rating? Hehehe.

you should just leave the archers. theyre barely a nuisance and cant follow you. its a waste of time and resources to kill them.

actually, kiting mass groups through a fw/bb combo is a very effective way to kill a lot of trash all at once. you are right that it isnt very effective in wiz-king, but in blood its the bees knees.

Tactics and smart play is your friend and will reduce cost ten fold. Have a good intimidator. Healing one is easier. Use doorways, know who is in charge of reducing the mobs AC. Don't spawn every mummy. Take your time on the floors not can drop. Get the seals to reduce fights.

YES!

There are a lot of tricks for this quest.

I ran it (on my cleric) the same way I ran it three years ago (right after it came out) back when we had no good weapons and it was sooo difficult. So, to complete it (back before shrines reset, back when death = XP penalty you had to learn tricks.

Rather than go through all of them I'll give you an idea of what I do in there on Epic (Leading on my cleric)

1. (MOST IMPORTANT) You must keep surprises to a minimum.

1a. Before you ever go down any hallway have somebody range the coffins to pop the mummies. You then will fight them on your terms and not get mobbed by them.

1b. You know those staircases with the mummy at the top? Well, obviously there is a simple trick to prevent it from popping but no matter how you try somebody always screws up and hits that top step causing it to pop (and the ensuing battle causes the side mummies to pop .. etc ..). So .. eliminate that mummy before you go up the steps by having somebody range the coffin. The mummy will come down the steps where you will fight him with enough space between the fight and the 2 side coffins (not popping those mummies).

1c. Whenever you return down a staircase always make sure your group is careful and descends exactly the way the ascended (directly up the middle). Sloppiness by jumping off the sides will pop side mummies.

1d. Don't cast Haste EXCEPT for combat. There's no reason to cast haste to get from point A to point B. Haste only causes ppl to get sloppy and sloppy = a surprise.

1e. We bring a monk .. he can super-step/jump (or whatever they call it) over floor in upper levels to determine where the floor will fall out thus avoiding the extra mobs.

1e. To kinda restate an earlier point: NEVER go in to a hallway without having first popped all the coffins (range them) on your own terms in a killing zone where you know the floor is safe and where you will not pop more aggro. For example - those hall chambers with clay golems? Theres no reason to be fighting mummies and golems all at the same time. Kill the mummies. Then enter the hall. If golems pop you have a much lighter load on your hands.

2. If I were you I'd have your group go in on norm to farm the seals for the Djinni and Efreeti - it's easy to do and it should allow you to avoid those fights. (OK, I have not tried the seals on Epic because I only thought of this last night so my next run will have them).

3. There are plenty of shrines in there. Use them wisely.

3a. Clear first room, make your way to the right and work your way up that tower as far as you can until you reach Djinni/Efreeti. (If this tower is the Wizard King ignore it and go back down. You want to kill a mini boss first.)

Assuming you are in a mini boss tower you then kill the mini boss first because this will test your group. IF your group sucks suddenly remember some prior plans and get out before you waste too much more time and resources. If you are doing great then the floor falls out and you are at a new shrine. After shrining go north, then East until you find the exit in to big chamber. Don't waste time in that area, Ghouls respawn (I think).

Now back up top with full resources you go right and up north hall. Return to previous tips for traversing halls.

Make your way up next tower. Again, you want to be killing the next mini boss. Follow earlier steps to achieve this. IF you find the Wizard King's tower just return back down to third tower. In any case you'll want to kill mini boss #2 next.

After killing the second mini boss you shrine up and work your way up through third tower. After clearing all the way to end fight you go back down to use the remaining shrine in central chamber. You now are full strength for end fight.

It's as easy as that.

a. Keep surprises to a minimum.
b. Hope for the best but plan for the worst.
c. Fight monsters on your terms and use the walls and doorways to defend yourself when available.

PS: After running Epic the new raid (TOD) seems really anti-climatic.

NOPE. The only groups who NEED 2 clerics are the groups who have 2 clerics.

Understand that circular logic?

I am solo cleric and I havent died once on epic.

Just be smart and take it slow and careful.

My simpleton suggestion works for 90% of the quest. Aggro a group, pull, peel off, rinse and repeat. Please dont assume that this applies for the boss fights, as it does not.

I can keep going on and on with ideas and suggestions. Lets go ahead with a few.

Wizzly > Remember that the epic chest is in the treasure room so there is no way around it: gotta kill the side bosses.

NiBB > Archers ? What archers ? You realize there is no real need to kill them, right ? And you also realize that in instances where SP management is crucial, a well prepared caster (call it a healer or a mage) with conc. opp. and torc will be able to regenerate a significant amount of SP back just by being shot while shield blocking right ?

Thats a definitely maybe. I can tell you that BB + FW is a highly efficient way of dealing with the wraiths that the king spawns at that fight. Seems you are one of those guys that drains healer sp instead of letting them be efficient killers lol.
