Was playing DDO last night, having a grand old time, when I walk into the Wayward Lobster with my lowbie character. The game freezes, not responsive to ctrl+alt+del. I'm a bit bummed out but I'd been playing for a few hours and it was late anyway. No big deal, right?
So I crank up my computer this afternoon, hoping to hop on DDO with some friends. Load up Windows XP, same as always. When I load the game, I get these funky artifacts all over the place. It's like a trippy Pink Floyd show or something, fractal lasers of bright light all around my screen. I load a character hoping for the best and it's even worse in game. I quit out.
When I return to the desktop, my graphics are all squirrely. I have five gray and black bars that run vertically down my screen and there's nothing I can do to get rid of them.
I swapped out a good working monitor, same thing. So it must be either hardware or software, not a monitor issue.
I check out my Device Manager, it says that everything is groovy from a graphics card standpoint. So I'm wondering if there is some software thing that I'm just not getting.
Updated drivers, nothing. Loaded up a restore point, no dice.
My worst fear is my graphics card is jacked up and I need a new one. The actual screen is decent in Windows (black bars and slowly fills up with more bars as I open/close programs) and it wigs out in any programs.
Running a Radeon 9800, if that helps.
