Until recently DDO ran smoothly on my computer. Ever since the second to most recent patch, however, several times a minute everything just pauses for a few seconds - I can't move, the graphics freeze, the audio "hiccups". This persists as long as I can stand playing this way. I have uninstalled my mainboard, video, and audio drivers and updated them with the most recent versions, including the .NET 1.1 suggestions in the forums, and still no change. I disabled audio in game, and then via hardware (reverted back to built-in audio) and the problem continued in the same fashion. I toned down the graphics settings to the point of absurdity and still no discernable difference. I also uninstalled and reinstalled the game, downloaded the manager and used it to update the program, also to no avail. This behaviour occurs at all times and with approximately the same frequency, whether hanging out in a bank/tavern, in a wilderness area, or running a dungeon/raid with all kinds of graphics intensive activity going on. Intermittent ~2 second mini-freezing
I've started getting that mini-freezing also with Windows 7 RC, I switched back to Windows XP and the problem disappears, even with all the graphics options put to max since XP runs quite a bit faster with no DX10 (and just for shadows... pfftt...).
Might be a driver issue.

Assuming all is good driver side, When this is happening, open up your task manager, you may have a process that is going completely out of control and you are losing CPU time to it.
Could also be your anti virus program (esp if you use Norton). Baring a format/re install, it could also be hardware.
How hot is your computer getting?
How hot is your graphics card getting?
Is one of your hard drives dying?
Is your RAM still good?

The only process going out of control is DDO :/
I've turned off all firewall, anti-virus, defender, etc. and none of that helped at all. I don't notice any significant change in heat levels coming from any of the components. I replaced my RAM a couple of months ago and it seemed to be working fine, though I haven't confirmed this through any diagnostics. I don't think my hard drive is dying, but then again I'm not sure I'd know if it were.
I've updated my dxdiag after some of the most recent fix attempts. Experts welcome to help

You've stated what you've turned off (which is good), and the sarcastic comment about DDO doesn't help us guess what is going on. We actually need you to open up your task manager and look to see what is sucking CPU time and power at the time this is happening.
You've stated you do not notice any significant heat. Human sense won't tell you much other than something is hot or cold. We need the actual reported temps.
Your 8800 GTS. How old is it, have you ever removed the dust from it? Stock fan?

That note there made me go "huh", but probably a red herring.
Why do you have a wireless connection along with your two lan line ports? Is the wireless your actual net connection? I ask because I've actually run into cases where the drivers for the wireless card were at fault.

Sarcasm was not my intent - I really appreciate the input. I'm not an expert with all this troubleshooting stuff so I'll tell you what I see and await further instructions for finding pertinent information. When i monitor the performance tab with DDO open in a window but I'm working in a different window, cpu usage hovers in the 5-10% range. As soon as I make the DDO window active, cpu usage immediately goes up to 50-70%. I don't notice any difference once I'm in game whether I'm standing still, in or out of town, in combat, or in "stutter mode". Physical memory usage remains fixed at 2.44 GB throughout this process. The "memory" column under the processes tab lists dndclient.exe at a constant 850M, with iexplore.exe next at 134M, and all others significantly less. I couldn't find any power or heat information. The wireless is my actual connection. I'll try a few things (update drivers, check performance using other connection, etc.) and report back.

Those spikes you saw in your edit are expected. Something is stopping all processes from running, and they are suddenly all trying to catch up.
Your paragraph that started with "Sarcasm was not my intent". Good results there.
GTS at 2 years... it could be dying by now depending on how hard you have used it. Nvidia... yeah. two series of bad designs for cooling and bad fabrications. You should be able to get its temp running out of the nvidia tools. They did remove it for a while, but I think they added it back in.
You may have to get 3rd party tools for temp readings. On that I don't have any suggestions, but I really think we are going to need them.
The last software idea I have is that Vista screwed up on software settings of your hardware such that too many things are using the same IRQ or Memory Mapping and that lock up is causing your issue. And honestly, I'm not going to try to explain how to check this over forums.
Emm... last random idea. What is your power supply unit? What size and such. Was it a knock off, or did you get your own?
