downgraded now cant lvl to 7 or buy a sigil

not sure exactly where to post this but I recently downgraded from vip to premium and after that i logged into my lvl 6 character which was ready to lvl to 7 much to my dismay i get a message that I need a sigil to level any further (kinda thought that was uncool but I can deal) so I go to the ddo store to purchase one and it says there are no items for my characters level or class yadda yadda
is this the way it is suposed to work? dose not seem right that i am precluded from buying a sigil just because I was vip and after the points fiasco this really is not making me want to go back to vip

so if I am forced to grind for a sigil where should i look? at lower level quests that normally drop them or should i be trying at my level quests will one even drop for me at level six?

has anybody else run into this problem after downgrading?

I would really appreciate any input or incites

well got an email saying they had done somthing that "should" have fixed my leveling issue but it did not

I had the same problem. Here's what I was able to determine:

1. I bought VIP as a level 4 paladin with a level cap of 4.
2. During VIP, I leveled up to 7 before downgrading.
3. My character sheet as a premium account stated my level cap was 4, despite my level being 7.
4. No matter how many quests I did, I could not get a sigil. The DDO store claimed there was nothing available for my level/class under the sigils section, though my level 7 wizard whose level cap was 8, was able to purchase a silver sigil if I had wanted to.


I figure there is one of two possible problems.

Option one: the game should have automatically moved the level cap up to the next tier (5-8 instead of 1-4) when I downgraded, but didn't. Add a script to check character level vs character level cap attributes when the account is downgraded.

Option two: the DDO store and quest rewards tables are looking at character level to determine what to display, but where sigils are concerned, they should be looking at the character's level CAP attribute to determine whether or not to offer a sigil.

In-game support can't edit character flags the way the GMs can in games like, say, EverQuest (I had EQ GM-Admins back in the day who'd actually take my character off my account so they could log in on it and see firsthand what was going on, then return it with things tweaked properly). I suspect they also can't generate items for characters (IE a sigil!), nor can they do anything to change what the store offers, so a fix to the code is urgent.

I finally, after waiting 3 weeks for a response from account management, gave up and bought VIP again. at the end of this month, it will downgrade and if I have the same problem, I'll never play another Turbine game again. Ever.


And I mean that. I swore off Sony Online after EQ2 and VSoH bombed and Planetside was driven into the ground and forced in-game advertisements on players on top of subscription fees, and the only time I bent that oath was for a nostalgic trip when they offered me 2 free months in every one of their mmos one summer.

3 weeks with no response to the email, 2 attempts at telephone contact via the LONG DISTANCE number provided (each leaving me on hold for 30 mins before I gave it up as a waste of time...cell phone, so I pity the poor folks who have to contact them from a landline), and multiple in-game petitions with the same stonewall "We can't do jack" answer...I may just rethink my opinions of Sony Online Entertainment after this experience. Singularly the WORST customer service I have experienced ANYWHERE, in MMOs or elsewhere. And I've been playing MMOs for 10-11 years now...

well I would just delete and start again but my character is all planed out so i could make one just like her but I have some bound to character stuff that I really really don't want to part with

I did ask if all else fails if they could just demote my character back down to level 4 but I guess if the could do that then they could have just as easily leveled me up.

part of the reason I went with VIP on this game was because of the flexibility if i am having a tough month i could just down grade and still play the game and even have some points to buy content with if I need to , but then we have the problem with the points not being applied and now this I think I will not go back to VIP anytime soon

or at least wait till I get my mains all their sigils first

but on a positive note this gave me no excuse not to lvl my sorc

oh and I agree they need to give the gm's a bit more power

Well, they responded to your thread, if not to mine. Just needed someone else to back me up that it's a problem, I guess.

I can certainly understand why this is happening, it's quite simple to imagine....even tho it is something that should have been caught in beta.

U were VIP and are in between a leveling gap, not 8th yet, but past 4th. The Premium system does not take into account that u should be in the 5-8 level range and still thinks that u have never used a sigil, because it obviously does not recognize ur were just recently a VIP....so how it should work is as soon as u level up to 5th as a VIP u should automatically be in the 5-8 range if u downgrade. Oh well...coding is complicated.

Something along those lines.

If I may suggest, just grind out harbour quests on solo, until u get one, u need the first sigil, the copper one so u have access to the 5-8 level range and those sigils are found in 1-4 quests....well technically 2-4 as u can't get them in Korthos. U should have one very quickly...and it has been officially stated by a Dev that Premium customers are guaranteed sigils for end rewards.

That said, I am certain this will be fixed soon, as this would be a total game breaker as far as the store goes.

What I am wondering tho, unless I have not noticed is why are the forums not flooded with these kind of posts or are these isolated cases?

thanks for your suggestion and i have been grinding my tookus off looking for one and have yielded no results, not that it hasn't been fun, cause it has been (its a different quest completely soloing on elite ) but it has been almost 2 weeks I am starting to think because of my level a copper sigil just will not drop, I even used a luck potion thingy from the shop and still no luck, I could just have bad luck, I don't know only the devs could tell me definitively weather that is true or not

Alas, the silver sigil seems to require that you already have a copper sigil. Hence why you can't buy one in the DDO store until you have the copper version.

I was thinking more along the lines of level 5 with four bubbles and being one point away from level 6 that the system would think u would need one up to that point, because technically u will accumulate xp up to that point even if u do not have a sigil yet.

But yeah if ur both already past level 7 and not quite to eight yet then u could be stuck until they get it fixed. OR....maybe try getting the silver sigil instead, not sure but if it thinks u do not need a copper it may still think u need a silver...which would drop in 5-8 level quests. And don't forget it's what the quest is on normal, it doesn't matter if u do them on solo or elite.....the end reward for a quest is always based on what level the quest is on normal.

SO like Bringing the Light which is level 2 on normal will always have a level 2 loot table for end reward choice even if u use a luck thingy from the store.

Of course it still doesn't make sense that u don't have that option in the store niether, I mean for a silver sigil.

On a side note I was two months behind on my VIP Turbine Points and I was finally compensated today...which means they are looking into these issues. Sorry guys.....with the release of this whole new system....I'd have to think for Turbine it's like trying to find a beach on the north pole......or wait.....that was Korthos...nvm...u know what I mean

Well, now that they've noticed the issue and gotten their collective gears turning, Good Things are happening. I just got an email saying they'd take care of me in a way I've never seen an MMO ever do. Won't say what since I don't want to raise any expectations, but I'm satisfied...as long as they fix the bug ^_^

An in-game GM gave me a gold sigil for my level 14 character last night, but we found that I couldn't use it because I was past level 12, which the gold sigil is supposed to unlock. The GM directed me to contact Account Management again.

I called them today, and was pleasantly surprised to have a rep inside of 10 minutes. I think they did the same thing for me that they did for Saiidin, but like him I don't want to raise expectations. Let's just say it was more than I expected.

What I really wanted to share here was that the rep told me that they expected the code fix for this next Tuesday. That's not a guarantee, but it's still information on the glitch.

I am thinking this must be isolated or some people just went ahead and went back to vip asap or maybe just quit all together

I do hope it gets fixed soon I would like to go back and forth from vip to f2p with confidence since in this economy I cant always afforded the 15 bucks a month,

I have teenagers and they are very good at sucking my bank account dry LOL
