Emblematic of the state of the game. At low levels you have a high chance of getting a group with at least a couple of "newer" players who not only have no clue, they don't listen either, zerg, die, zerg, complain, die. end result, Fiasco. (which is Italian for the round bottomed chianti bottle with the straw basket wrapped around it, extra points for anyone who can tell me why Fiasco means what it means beyond the nominal definition)
At the higher levels, especially the raids, it's exactly the same except now you are certain to get a few players who know what they are doing, but are only willing to do it their way and no other, they also don't listen. And, Viola! fiasco.
And just to add to the daily spice, I was in a raid group on the way out to a raid I shan't mention and then a player who also shall go nameless, from a "famous" guild departed just prior to the raid starting, providing a somewhat absurd excuse, leaving, if I might quote James Bond, "As if it was intended".
I think the take home lesson here is never assume that adults are on the other end of the keyboard, regardless of their chronological age. That goes double for me.
I dont have a problem with that but if you read my above quote, this is the issue.
Intent unannounced and although had asked for buffs was told I could wait.
Deathward would have prevented the negs levels right?
It's not like they werent going to throw mass buffs eventually anyways.
I can see it now..
Reach the pit and the cleric decides to drop extended mass buffs (40 minutes) for a 10 minute fight.
It is ridiculous.
The issue I had on the first attempt was killing the orthon and a few of the trash while half the party runs off having said nothing.
About the time I find myself under kitties is about the time the rest of the party decided to leave.
This is also about the time I was hit with negs.
All too often I have found myself in this situation in "guild runs" where the leadership does not see fit to let those outside their "group" have their policies known.
It won't happen again.
Edit: Perhaps Turbine will see fit to add blue barriers at the bottom of each passageway (similar to Monastery) and put an end to this ****.

French, from Italian fare fiasco, to make a bottle, fail, from fiasco, bottle (perhaps translation of French bouteille, bottle, error, used by the French for linguistic errors committed by Italian actors on the 18th-century French stage)

Officer (retired) Salinias Fretgoop LVL Fighter
Inlestar Fretgoop lvl 10 Wizard

Dood! nice. interesting I didn't know of the French use of bottle to refer to an error. I have wondered about fiasco for some time, it's not clear to me. I have assumed it refered to an "empty bottle", with no wine. certainly a fiasco indeed. Slang terms are quite interesting, like Scopare the Italian verb for sweeping, is the slang verb for "doing it", which comes from the old times when the master of a household would ask a servant to come to "sweep" his quarters.
Probably not what you're thinking fiasco (the latin)... be fare fiasco? - make a bottle, itialian. The straw bottles you refer to the straw serves two purposes... the wine is cheap, they use a cheaper thiner bottle which would not stand upright without the weaved straw base. Aging wine requires to set on it's side - due to cork... thus these are not aged.
Btw... french words bouteille (bottle) while flasque (flask)... fiasco takes moreso as a word for blunder, typically in reference of venacular in literature or drama must say reaching but just a thought of cheap wine... if you were speaking french they'd point out a literal inaccuracy as a fiasco.
Oh, and reminds me when I be fourteen we went on holiday, Sanremo, along with a the family of one of Da's coworkers - they being French, I remember one particular night formal diner and wine complimentary, before I could raise my glass however Da’s friend stopped me. Tell something like “L's raisins aigres attachent la langue?” Sour grapes will tie your tongue. He was very adamant about picking a wine rather then drinking that given away… Oh, and his son Antione… made french easy to learn, but that be a different memory.![]()

BYOB. Bring Your Own Buffs.
If you require healing from another party member, it is your responsibility to stay within range of said healer.
Why are you pulling the agro of one ortho, 4 cats, and whatever was neg leveling you? It's clear you couldn't handle it, and you don't pull that agro with ToD trash unless you either try to or are running at the front of the pack.
Why, when half the group (including the clerics whose assistance you required) ran off, did you not join them? It's quite clear that you realized it was happening...
Sorry, Slink, but while you keep saying "no one told me, no one told me", I keep hearing "I observed, I observed... but refused to react accordingly".
Yeah, you are right Strake.
What I observed was the only inbound communication.
That is all I am asking for.
Is it so terribly difficult to understand?
I don't need a healer on that character.
In fact, I even teleported myself to the hole for recon scrolls since we were WF tank heavy and the few casters in group thought they could use the help.
The alt in question is at 42 umd and a few loh that hit for @120.
Self healing and self buffing are not a problem.
As far as the mobs are concerned let me say it as plainly as possible.
Run #1:
When the door opened EVERYONE engaged the orthon.
After the orthon was dead, I found myself under a cat.
While under the cat, the rest of the party left.
How I drew agro from the caster, I do not know.
The result was 4 negs.
When I caught up with the group, someone fell.
We recalled/reformed.
This time it was told.
We are running by mobs.
Run#2:
When the door opened everyone ran by mobs.
When I reached bridge, bridge is full of mobs.
I try to jump over mobs and end up in lava.
Cursing ensued.
I am not sure how it can be so difficult to understand that I play with the the group.
If they give instructions on what they desire I can follow them; I am reasonably intelligent.
I can not follow instructions if none are given.
By the same token.
How hard is it to manage (as a group) the small trash mobs that exist inside of that quest?
Not terribly.
Whose grand idea is it that the reward is the only benefit?
Whoever it is, they suck.
I play DDO because it is fun to play. (can you understand that sentence??)
Running past the fun, well, is not fun.
So, in closing.
0 communication/teamwork + 0 fun = Forum rant.
Please be sure to let me know if it is still too much for your domepiece to grasp.
I will be more than happy to try again.
S.

hmm.. well, I am thinking of the glass bottle that is contained in the straw which is a fiasco, and yes I think you are correct that fare fiasco is how the Italians use the term for a total screw-up, which has been coopted by us english speakers, however it still isn't clear to me that making a bottle is such a disaster, or getting wine that came in a fiasco was either. I suppose one would have to determine the origins and time period of the use of "fare fiasco" to be sure of its meaning. Certainly in modern times, there is a slightly negative connotation with wine coming in a fiasco, however I don't believe that was the case prior to the twentieth century.
Slink,
you are correct in your rant. Even in the shroud there should some communication by the "leader". Strake is a great player (I assume) however, he has a "completely self sufficient" mindset that is, IMO, rather inflexible and intollerant of other views. It serves him well, although perhaps not so well for others. I think there are largely 2 philosphies, coordinated team play for maximum efficiency, or maximum self sufficiency, both are routes for personal satisfaction in gaming, and I think, equally valid. Buyer beware and add another page onto your "do not group with" list... (BTW I am not suggesting that Strake be on that list FWIW)
I do not know if you are referring to the group I run with Slink but you could be. Experimentation in order to make a better raid is something that should be encouraged not discouraged. My group has experimented with running by the mobs to see if there was much increased danger and/or issues with the hopes of decreasing our completion time. We discovered that the best policy for prior to part 1 was to run to the lever and pull that asap in order to start the dialogue rather then stopping to fight 2 mobs. After that we tried running to the jailor/judge part and as of yet have not lost a character nor used much mana in the process. We also tried running between part 1 and part 2 but found that the dungeon alert level could end up being problematic on part 2 which would make the kiters job more difficult so we no longer do that.
The members of our group come from all walks of life. Some have a limited time to play ddo whereas others have alot of time. One of the common goals we have is to maximize efficiency from the group perspective i.e. getting people the opportunity to run raids and get their loot in a short real world time frame.
Speed shrouds which took half the time of normal shrouds in times past was our first stab at this. We look to apply some of those same principles to other raids the Tower of Despair being one. Our best Tower Raid set to date was 7 hard or elite Tower raids in 6 hours - this was on last Wednesday.
I am most definitely open to any suggestions that people have toward improving efficiency.

Not about you Norg, you are always giving instructions about what you want to see in your parties.
Ability to communicate is not something you lack.
I will admit that lately I have not been present in your raids because of other issues.
That is another story but is one I will have the respect of dealing with on a personal level.
