    Default Windows 7

Hey everyone, I'm looking to buy a new PC and a curious if Windows 7 will be DDO compatible. Also any recommendations on a good gaming PC. I will probably be spending around $1000, just for the tower, I'm not buying monitor, printer, keyboard, ouse, etc. Thanks and happy adventuring!

    Default Win 7

    Hi There,

I have been running windows 7 evaluation copy for 3 months with DDO and have not had any problems. In fact Win 7 starts up faster and handles multi-threading better than any OS I have used before.

I've had problems with DDO on Windows 7 in two environments:

    1) My laptop, which resides in a corporate network that has a domain policy to redirect the My Documents folder to the server.

    2) My home desktop PC, which resides in a workgroup with it's My Documents folder manually redirected to a workgroup server.

In both cases, DDO ran fine of course, but I had to do the following in order for key mappings and graphics options to actually save after a session of playing. (DDO isn't the first software I've run into to have problems with redirected folders):

    1) Manually create a folder called "Dungeons and Dragons Online" inside your "My Documents" folder.
    2) Manually create a file called "userpreferences.ini" inside this folder. It can be empty. The fact that you've created it should be good enough.

Now, when you run the game, if you make keymapping changes you should now see a file called "ddo.keymap" created inside your folder above. Also, once you make graphics changes, "userpreferences.ini" will get writen and should no longer be empty.

Hope that helps. Also, these fixes might not be limited to Windows 7. I bet Vista boxes and possibly even XP boxes with redirected My Documents folder might need this done as well.

Running Windows 7 RC1, on a 32 bit machine, no problems at all with DDO. Even running everything on very high, with DX10 turned on.
