Default Multiclass Feat Respec---Need Definitive Answer! Devs???

I am building a multi-class 12/Fighter 6/Ranger 2/Monk. I took the 2 monk levels first and then the fighter levels. I am approaching the time that I will take my Ranger levels.

    Here is the question?

I will get TWF and ITWF for free from the Ranger levels. I already took those feats with fighter. I have heard 10 different opinions on how this mechanic works and I need the real scoop.

Do I need to drop TWF and ITWF before taking level 2 Ranger (and later 6 Ranger for ITWF) so that the toon doesn't bug and lose feats? I have been told everthing from I do not, and I will get a message for a free feat respecs to I need to drop everything even related i.e. OTWF, TWD, and ITWF AND TWF before taking my 2nd level of Ranger, or it will bug.

There is obviously a lot of time that goes into building toons and the last thing I want is to get to level 15, take my 2nd level of ranger and find out that there was some verrrrrrry specific way I needed to do my feats and I totally gimped my toon.

A developers input would ROCK but I would like to hear from anyone else who may have the same build.

    Thanks a billion!

yes you need to respec out of twf before 2nd lvl of ranger or you will lose those feats forever or until you true reincarnate if you have O*** you need to get rid of that since twf is a prereq yes, this will be expensive for you and you will have to wait 3 days for each exchange and remember dont take toughness twice even as a place holder.

Respec them before the ranger levels or you lose the earlier feats. Also taking ranger for the last 6 levels also locks you out of being able to take GTWF.

Yup, kind if gimps the build a bit... OP, you may want to reconsider the tempest path at this point. You might be better with more fighter levels.

But what if I took a feat prior to Level 6 Ranger (level 20 total) that I intended to swap out for GTWF after I had TWF and ITWF? If I took Luck of Heroes at level 18 or 19 (just an example) with every intent to swap it out for GTWF at 20, it wouldn't work? I would have the pre-reqs, but the mechanics are so finicky that I am not sure if I am missing a nuance here that will screw me. It works in the 3.1 character planner (which is a great tool) but some things that work in planning don't work in the game.

if you get itwf at 20 you cant get gtwf as itwf is a pre for it and youd have to wait till lvl21 to take gtwf

basicly you cant spec a feat in when you couldnt take it the normal way either
so even if you swap out your lvl12 feat, it wont work, cause you dont have itwf till 20

and yes, if you get a feat for free which you already have, that feat is lost and ull never get it back

Thanks for the advice. Looks like I rolled this toon backwards if I wanted GTWF. Now to decide reroll or 18/2 Fighter/Monk.

I guess another (far less tasty) option is that I double up a feat? I could take ITWF earlier, even though I get it for free later and take GTWF. That would still work, correct? If I just took ITWF and GTWF as feats and realized that my ITWF fighting for my last level of ranger was a wash? It isn't like it will bug out to have it twice, will it? It's just a sad, sad, sad waste...right?

if you take itwf to get gtwf befor your ranger lvls, you wasted basicly 2 feats (twf and itwf), yes
    but its doable

Well, I could opt out of TWF just before ranger level 2. Get it for free and then pick up ITWF as a feat, then GTWF. So really I lose a feat for free ITWF at 20, I think. The other option, also not tasty, is I think I could wait for my 12th fighter level until 20. That way, I could get TWF and ITWF free for Ranger and take GTWF as my feat for level 20 with fighter. But that delays Kensai II til level 20...which stinks. I swear this is harder than organic chemistry.

ah true, yes. you can take the free twf and just loose 1 feat then

    fighters have enough feats anyway

That is definitely doable, and better than rerolling, loosing 2 feats, or missing out on tempest. Respec ITWF and TWF prior to the ranger levels though.
