    Default Alignment

What alignment (besides the obvious lawful) should a monk be? Is there something that makes, say "lawful neutral" a bad alignment for endgame content?

lawful neutral is the way to go, that way you dont get a negative level from items with taint of evil (like the lotd) and you dont get extra damage from unholy wweapons (or was it pure evil? anyway, one of those)
also aligmentbased spells have less impact on you as mobs tend to spam those which works good against good chars

But if you go neutral, you miss out on using "of pure good" weapons. Renders, Flenzors, Reavers, etc, need "Cold Iron + Pure Good", or "Transmuting + Pure Good" to bypass their DR.

If you aren't worried about that, then go with neutral.

Maybe if you go 1 level of rogue as your first level for the UMD class skill, otherwise you'll only have your UMD up around 12 or so by level 20 as a pure monk. Most pure good items require 20 UMD to use don't they?

    12 rank
    04 gh
01 cha (yes, even with a cha of 6 you can swap a +6 item in)
    03+ any umd item
    02 fire pos fire buff
    =21

    more then enough
see, you dont need a rogue level and if you start with more then lowest cha possible, you dont even need the cha item

And everytime you want to swap weapons you need to buff yourself up to equip a pure good weapon. I can see it now:

"look out! we got three fire reavers heading this way"

"time out guys, I need to get a GH, meditate so I can put a buff on myself, and put my UMD item on so I can equip my kamas"

    dont swap weapons then?
pure good work against almost everything, no need to use something else
and if you use seomthing else, you have enough time to swap as you know it beforhand

or even better, get the new metalline of pure good handwraps, those dont need you to be good aligmened

    Completely unrealistic.
You'd require Planar Gird for GH, and the fire-pos-fire buff on (which lasts 1 min) just to use a pure good weapon?
Which will be good for what... 1 min?

    No thanks.
Lawful Good for me. So you lose out on LoTD trinket and "taint of evil" gear. Not a big deal, really.

I wouldn't hold my breath on them to stay that way - they'll probably be fixed before release.

well, i forgot the +1 from the dm voice trinket
or get some more cha and drink a hero pot, so you dont need gh
and youre a monk, you can do that finisher whenever you want
and why is it only good for 1 min?

20 umd can gotten by everyone even with just crossranks, and its not hard to do

lol. There's some good advice. Don't swap weapons.

I have handwraps of smiting, disrupting, holy burst, etc. Plus, I have transmuting kamas of pure good, vorpal kamas, wounding kamas, everything is situational.

Knowing what is coming up ahead is fine after you have run the quest a few times, but the first time through you'll never know.

It is possible to keep your UMD up, I'm not arguing that, I'm just saying it would be a pain in the a$$ to do it, more trouble for me than it's worth IMO.
