    Default Transnational Play

    Hi,

I am a college student in the “Games for the Web” course at Trinity University.

    http://www.trinity.edu/adelwich/transnational/

My classmates and I have selected DDO as our primary platform because we're very interested in the phenomenon of transnational play. What happens when players from different cultures and nationalities interact with one another in these virtual spaces?

Last week, we fanned out across the different DDO servers. A few of us have created new characters on the Sarlona server. We are interested in talking with people from other countries about their thoughts on transnational gaming. If you are available to chat, please contact our team at: games.khyber@gmail.com.

One of us will write back soon. Thank you in advance for your time and for allowing us to be part of your community. We are committed to behaving as responsible, ethical and respectful scholars. We understand that the MMORPG community has been surveyed to death during the past several years, and promise that we will not waste your time with "hit and run" research. We are approaching this project in the spirit of collaborative, participatory research, and will be publicly sharing our findings and thoughts on the course web site.

This course is being taught by Professor Aaron Delwiche in the Department of Communication. If you have any concerns about this class, please feel free to contact him via e-mail (delwich@trinity.edu) or telephone (210/999-8153).

Please respond as soon as possible!
    Thank you!

Sarlona is probably the better server since they have all the Asians it seems....but Khyber has a lot of Australians and a splash of other countries....and a whole lotta drama!

What is your group's experience with MMO's or gaming in general? I assume since the course is around web gaming, you'll have some knowledge. If you need help, there's pleanty of people on Khyber willing and able to help you anyway they can. GL, sounds interesting.
    -KHYBER- Current Mains: Dios D'Muerte - Barb>FvS>Bard>Wiz>Art / Deeos D'Muerte - 20 Ninja(TR2) / Draugar D'Muerte - 20 Ninja (TR1) .Deyna D'Muerte - 20 Assassin x3 (TR2)

    It's a Guy Thing Em,
We all pretend to understand once a girl starts bouncing & getting all huffy - you know - skating that line hoping for more huffing & such without actually getting you to leave (though sometimes, I can honestly say I hate to see you go, but love to watch you walk away.....)
Guys, what can I say? We have 2 track minds (yes, I think about food or sleep sometimes)

This is the typical response of the male/american.
I strive for individuality and do not participate in this viewpoint.
Being a gentleman does have a place in our society.
That includes the ability communicate and show understanding in a more than plutonic fashion.

Oh I can be a gentleman.... but I am mostly a sarcastic american male pain. I try never to purposfully do anything to make someone angry, but ........ I am american, and proud of it, mostly because I am a conglomerate of wierdness and wacky-ness that really doesn't make much sense. Mores so because I jump on the underdog ship as soon as I see what side that is just so I can say I am always being picked on, LOL

You guys made a serious error in not coming to Khyber.

As far as international relations go, I'm okay with it as long as they speak English. English was good enough for Jesus, so it oughtta be good enough for everyone else.

    You mean Hebrew.......

Or Greek....Maybe a little bit of latin on the side.

Jesus never spoke English. It's not possible for someone born 2000+ years ago to speak a language that has only existed since the 15th century in it's 'current' form. Least of all is the issue of 'location location location'.....
