DDO Crash after Character Selection

I also was playing while my game was downloading, I tried logging in once the download completed and it locked on character select. Windows 7, latest direct x, latest drivers. Athlon 64bit, ATI HD3200, 4 Gigs memory, lots of HD free (couple hundred gigs on the C:\)

I think Direct x 10 is what's freezing it, I would set to the lowest graphics options but I can't because while the mouse will move around once character select comes up I can't click anything it just sits there. How do you manually change the settings? I found the repair option and the reset graphics options on the launcher. No effect for the lockup on character select.

Somewhat randomly I found a suggestion somewhere - it may have been here, it may have been an nvidia forum, but anyway, after a few hours google searching, I eventually hit upon trying to run DDO in windowed mode on my 9800GT 1GB DDR2 card. And the problem was not there. I need to give this a few more tries to be sure, but this is a possible fix for this issue - possibly not a very satisfactory one depending on how clumsy you are (I forsee random closing of game session in my future), but at least a suitable 'workaround' if not a 'solution'.

Wife having login troubles she has a higher end computer then mine she just recently download DDO installed fin she was able to create a character but once she selected a world it went to the loaded about maybe 5% then crashed any ideas?

I could just be missing a post on here that might explain how to fix it.

This worked for me, I changed my compatibility setting and it stopped crashing.

I selected on: Turbineluancher, TurbineInvoker, TurbineElevator, dndlauncher, dndclient.

-Disable visual themes
-Disable desktop composition
-Disable desplay scaling on high DPI settings.



To find all this stuff. I right clicked on the shortcut. Selected properties. Go to File Location. Then Right Click and go to properties on each icon. Selected Compatibility Tab.


Sorry I was too lazy to narrow down settings and applications.

I just reinstalled DDO after a long absence and had this happen to me as well. I tried a few things suggested to no avail, then did something simple. I disabled my 2nd monitor. I've had no problems after that. It is a wee bit of a pain, but hardly problematic. A quick pop into Control Panel for 30 seconds before playing, then after to restore the monitor.

ok i cant even get past the character creation screen. as soon as i select race and hit next it freezes. i set everything to low but it dosent help, it runs better but still freezes.

im on a old laptop and runing xp, im planning to upgrade to win7 in the next few days so maybe that will help idk. seems my old pc had a problem like this to but someone was my saving grace and helped me fix it.
